Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Nights like the one im having now make my rethink going back to school for nursing.... Its not the patients its the work and nurses that make me feel this way. I am a PCT at a hospital in texas. And every night i have been working since thursday i have been on my own. The whole floor, today i have 34 patients to myself to do vitals on, sugers, urinals, catheters, repositioning, and god forbid a bed alarm goes off. My phone rings like ive won a million dollars. I have been walking and back hurting non stop since i clocked in at 645pm. Now i am only sitting down because i demanded to take a break. I'm not sure how im going to be able to do this and go to school full time. I feel like im going to pass out at anytime.

I totally understand how you feel. I was a Pca while in nursing schools and sometimes would be on the floor myself taking care of 28 patients. It was brutal. But I always thought this will be over soon. I was full time in school and worked full time nights. I'm here to tell you hang in there it is possible and worth it. I now been a nurse for 2 months and love it as will you. Keep your head up and don't let anything hold you back. The light is at the end of the tunnel my friend. :)

I am not a PCT (although I have been looking for positions!) but just try to remember that being a nurse will be different. I'm sure it's hard when you're in that position but if it's really what you want to do and where you want to be, don't give up. Good luck!
