SHE'S AT IT AGAIN!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Okay, fellow students,

My micro instructor has done it again only this time these questions were Never lectured on in class!

Can anyone help me find these as I have spent countless hours in the book and they are not there.

Please don't suggest 'talking' to her; she only says things like, "well, that's the way it was in the military and that's

the way life is."

1. Mediated transport of polar molecules and ions across the plasma membrane utilizes a ____ _____ that will bind

to the substance effecting a conformational change that allows movement across the membrane.

2. The cell's metabolic reactions involve the participation of ____ that lower the activation energy needed for the

initation of a reaction.

3. (my favorite:) the redox carriers of the electron transport chain that have a tightly bound metal atom responsible for accepting and donating electrons are the _______.

4. Metabolic pathways that are bidirectional are called ___ pathways.(the book makes No mention of bidirectional pathways:

I am praying for a miracle every day just to get through this class so that I won't have to drop it(can't afford the money) but I am totally lost and she will not help.

Thank you all for your support and help; surely there are instructors out here somewhere that 'care' and are not so

military-minded that they have lost site of what they're supposed to be doing.

Still desperately trying to climb this mountain:crying2:

The only problem with Cytochrome being the answer is, she has 2 blanks there!

Here is my 2 cents, completely off the top of my head, so take it for what it is worth!:

1. Carrier molecule

2. enzymes

3. oxidizer

4. oxidation/reduction reactions or reversible reactions

Hope that helps

Itsinthegenes,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Now, got any ideas on where to find Peer-reviewed articles for Gonorrhoea and

Herpes simplex virus? She's making us do reports but, we "are not allowed' to

use the internet to get our research, nor can we use textbooks that were published Before 2000 and No articles written by doctors as they "are only

giving their opinon."

Praying for the day when this horrible class will be over:crying

Specializes in none yet!.

Peer reviewed research could be something like Science or Nature journals (or any journal to do with research on the topic) - you can probably find this on the internet, then just claim you found it in the journal!!

I have no idea why they would say no internet, when I was writing my thesis I used the internet all the time - far more effective as long as you know the right sites - your teacher would be better off teaching you how to effectively use the internet than just banning it

Is #1 maybe transport protein?

#2 definately enzymes

itsinthegenes,

She claims to have "plaigarism software" and she will Definitely know if it came

from the internet!! It's pure madness!! She acts like we're in school for PhDs

and not just intro to microbiology students; she talks 400wpm and it's always

over our heads!

It's funny though, when you ask her a question, she always seems to have to

babble an answer.

She would report me to the Dean if I tried to use anything from the internet:(((

She even says that when drs write articles, they are not peer-reviewed!

I am so stressed out and unable to sleep over this but I just don't want to drop

it to have to go through all this again.

tfleuter,

Thank you so much; everyone has been so supportive! I am so depressed and stressed over this class, it just does not seem worth it even though I long to finish and get my RN.

I'm at el centro and they do not let us get info from internet either. The professors there say that much of the info from internet is inaccurate, i. e. wikipedia can be edited by anyone. If you go into the dcccd website and go to library, and then to journals, we have access to professional journals. I just finished critiquing some for my sociology drugs and society class. In fact it is really interesting. We can read journals that doctors are writing for their peers and there are journals that are more user friendly too. I think you have said before that you are in the dcccd community, that is why I am recommending this= Good Luck afranklin:wink2::nurse:

I am now taking a second nutrition class. They didn't want basic human nutrition had to be for healthcare. We have come to a chapter that sounds like chem and micro all over. I hated oxidation/reduction and can't remember the basics.. but now reading your questions ... they seem to be what we are doing.. a little is coming back... wow. how quickly I forgot.. thanks for the interesting questions...

mom35,

Thanks so much; I'll look into that!

dmskoka,

No, thank you:)

gosh all of this was in our physio class. we have nothing like this in our micro class! it is amazing how different the classes can be.
