Science on TEAS test

by acubed

Hi All, I've read so many posts that stated the science portion of the TEAS test comes out of nowhere (rock formation, etc). I'm wondering if I should get a geology study guide? Anyone have any useful input, suggestions? Everyone says the study guides don't cover what is on the science portion. Thanks

The science on the test did seem to sort of come out of nowhere, but I wouldn't go buy a geology study guide. I remember my questions on geology being extremely simple, and there were only 2 of them. There were a couple of physics questions that caught me off guard, if you've taken any physics I would recommend going back and looking at the formulas. For the most part, though, I really didn't think it was that hard. The toughest part for me was the math, but just because I am so used to using a calculator for everything, and doing longhand frustrates me. I would definitely spend the most time going back and studying the math.
I went to the Unofficial Online Course for the TEAS Exam Review (google it), worked through every single problem, and passed first try with an 88.
Don't stress too much about it, good luck!

The only thing you need it the TEAS study guide!! Except I think the science part is really lame and it did not even help me that much not to mention the science questions in the study guide are much more difficult then are on the test. Don't bother practicing the science questions waste of time. I have a good memory so I will give you some of the questions that I remember. I would not stress over the science, the math is what I would concentrate on. You have to move very fast to even get them all finished. I probably had to quess on about 6.
The wording may be off but you will get the picture
1. Mouth is to bolus as stomach is to---------? Chyme
2. What is unique about red blood cells--------? carry hemoglobin
3.What part of the Nervous system regulates digestion---------? Parasympathetic
4. What is similar beween eurkaryotes and prokaryotes---------? cell membrane
5. They show a picture of a bronchiol tree and it is numbered, which part has a mucuscilla escalator. I put # 2
6.What keeps the earth rotating around the sun-------? Gravational pull
7. Know the difference between atomic number, atomic mass, protons, neutrons, electrons. The element they use is LI Lithium
8.Know how to use that codon chart from Microbiology to decode the amino acids only 1 question.
9. If a little boy breaks a rock with his hands what type of rock is it----------? sedimentary
10. If a boy had chicken pox in the past what keeps him from getting chicken pox again? The choices were acquired immunity, primary immunity, cell mediated immunity and maybe passive immunity..I think
11. What keeps water frozen on top of a lake.......? I put hydrogen bonding.
12. If a man in a wheel chair can not make it up a ramp what would you do=====? lenghten the ramp
13.They will show a picture of a broken rock with frozen water in between it. Can remember Q but the A is Wedging.
14. Be able to read a thermometer.
15. Now what independent and dependent variables in experiment mean, know what control group means.
There are a few physics type questions that I just made a quess. I never took physics.
For the math concentrate on ratios, proportions, and the know the metric system. There was probably only 2 algeba questions. Most is just adding and subtraction .There is only one geometric figure probelm. Just know C2=A2 +B2 Numbers used are 9 and 12 for the sides of the triangle. Now the D=R (T) and I= R (P)

I took it twice, so if you do the questions are exactly the same just in a different order.

Hope this helps and Good luck!!!

I remember a few more science questions:

First know the what a covalent bond and a ionic bond are.

1. Which one is a ionic bond ****. The answer is NACL

2. There is also one that asks about which one is a covalent bond, but I could not figure out what the right answer was. IF you know the different parts of a periodic table I think this helps .

3. There is also a picture showing two plate tectonics under the earth and it asks which type it is. I put divergent. Its kind of a lame picture, so I'm not sure.

OH! the answer to the math problem above is 15 !! Two sides of the triangle 9 and 12, C2= A2+ B2

And the about the metric system know 1 kilogram = 2 LBS and know the conversions for milligrams.
I know there is a question that that asks how 500 milligrams in 1 kilogram. Something like that I can't quite remember. ALSO make sure you know that body temperature is 98.7 F close or 37 degrees C. There is some problem that asks what 95.5F to Celisus is something weird like that.

The TEAS is the same test for everyone with the questions just in a different order. Hopefully my good memory will help me through nursing school!!

Thanks for the compliment

Hi! I took the TEAS just last week. The science section has questions that are super random. I purchased the ATI review guide for the TEAS myself, and found their Science unit to be of no help. Amazingly, there were only 2 A&P questions on the entire exam. I expected there to be more considering this IS a nursing school entrance exam. My strategy was to do well on the Language and Math sections -- and it worked! I got an 87% & had only studied for 2 weeks. So, (if you want to take my advice) just buy the ATI study guide and focus more on the Math and Language sections (which were covered pretty well in the guide) because a bulk of the exam questions are taken from these areas. Best wishes!
