Samuel Merritt BSN Fall 2009?

Hey there allnurses!

Was wondering if there was anyone out there who applied to the Fall 2009 generic BSN program at Samuel Merritt? Only 4-6 spots available! How ridiculous. I won't be getting in this Fall as my GPA isn't competitive enough, however I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the Spring!

I wonder what the lowest GPA accepted has been in the past? I have a good essay, great letter of rec, but mediocre GPA.

PS-I got waitlisted for fall 2009 entry. Does anyone know how many people typically get admitted from the waitlist? Thanks!

I graduated from the BSN program at Samuel Merritt a couple of weeks ago.

The BSN program accepts very few if any transfer students (meaning those who aren't from Mills, Holy Names, or Saint Mary's) during the fall term. You have MUCH better chances in the spring. This is because students in those three feeder schools get priority placement, and most of them move over during the fall term.

They won't accept a GPA lower than a 3.0, and it really should be even higher than that if you expect to compete for placement. The lowest I've heard for a transfer student being admitted was a 3.3. The reasoning is that if someone can't maintain a B average while completing prereqs then they aren't likely to make it though this BSN program

Hope this helps!

I'm shocked that a 3.3 GPA would get in. I did hear, however, that Samuel Merritt looks at more than just your GPA when making a decision. For example, I have a 3.61 GPA in their prerequisites and my friend had a 3.9. We both applied, but I got on the waitlist and she got rejected altogether. I guess my letter of rec and NET scores were far better than hers. Interesting system.

I of course will be applying for spring term assuming I don't make it in this fall!

PS-I went to your graduation a couple weeks ago. My Mom's a Nurse Manager and a few of the nursing students who were working for her were also graduating. Congratulations!!

The lady in charge (I can't name names here on allnurses!) e-mailed me this morning saying I'm next in line on the waitlist! They've already gone through 10 people to date. I'm getting my hopes up, I know. But it's VERY exciting for me!

Congratulations! I'm not sure how to personal message on here, but I'd like to offer my contact info in case you have any questions about the program. As I mentioned prior, I just graduated from it last month.

Congrats to all who got into Samuel Merritt!!!

I just graduated from the accelerated BSN program in May. I have 2 sets of the white scrubs you will need once you guys start your clinicals. I would hate to throw these scrubs aways since I have no need for them anymore. Therefore, would anyone like free scrubs mailed to them? The scrubs are a size small, petitie. Let me know :-D

Still waiting to hear back from Samuel Merritt...

I still have a little over a month to hear back from them. They accept people up through August 31st, so hopefully someone decides to drop out before then.

Sheesh. What a nightmare. Especially since the CSUs decided to not accept people this spring. My options are really getting slim...

Hello all! So I didn't end up getting in for fall 2009, but I've been accepted for spring 2010 and just dropped off my tuition deposit yesterday. I was wondering if anyone could offer their two cents about working during the program. I'm entering the traditional 2-year BSN program, not ABSN. I have a job that's very flexible hour-wise and will even allow me to work once a month if necessary. I currently work one day a week, an 8-hour day. Will that be too much? What about a 4-hour day per week? Or once every 2 weeks? Please let me know what you think!

Thanks!
