Requirements for an associates program

Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I went to my advisor and told them I wanted to get into an associates program and asked what other courses I would need. The list they gave me was incredibly long; I would need 2 more semester of 5 classes each. I don't think they gave me what I was asking for. Here are the courses I currently have completed.

A&P 1 and 2

Intro to Sociology

Intro to Psychology

Developmental Psychology

HED Intro to Health and Wellness (Gym)

Intermediate Algebra

English 101 and 105 which is Intro to Literature

HED Death and Dying

Philosophy Western Religion (Humanities elective)

With that being said to my own understanding the only other class I would need before I would have all of the requirements for basically any program would be microbiology, correct?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

What was on the list of classes they are saying you still need? Every program is different, so maybe yours requires all the non-nursing classes done before entry.

If you were going to my school, you would only need to take micro and then you would be done with your prerequisites.

Theres no way i could need that for an associates right?

I could see you needing those to graduate, I'd be surprised if they're all actual pre-reqs though. What school is this? Most have the info available online so you could probably verify that way.

It's different for every school, so it's possible that's correct information. For the programs around here, ill list the pre requisites below.

ADN

Comp 1

A&P 1&2

Micro

College algebra

General psychology

BSN

A&P 1&2

Micro

General psych

Lifespan

Comp 1&2

Intro to sociology

Chemistry

Elective science course with lab

& 2-5 elective credits

Just to give you some comparison :)

some ADN programs have a lot of pre-reqs. You should decide specifically what schools you want to apply to and look at their pre-reqs. they are probably on their website.

Here's a program near me:

AP 1 &2

Microbio

Intro to Chem

English Comp

Lifespan Psych

Yes you absolutely need nutrition, stats and Chem. That list looks a lot like my adn program.

I agree. Nutrition is required for my ADN program, but not chem or stats. Stats will only be required for my BSN, and chem isn't a direct requirement for either.

Specializes in Fertility, OBGYN, GYN ONC.

Might I ask what SUNY ADN program you're trying to get into? I got into the ADN program at TC3. I have a bachelor's in a non-science field, but the pre-reqs weren't that extensive.

Specializes in Orthopedics, Trauma.

My school requires all three of those classes to be completed before you apply to their RN program. The degree earned at my school is an Associates in Nursing DTA, a transfer degree specifically designed for folks to enter a 4 year university as a senior to complete their BSN after they graduate.
