Really...how hard is Chemistry?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I have never taken any kind of chemistry and I'm really nervous because I'm taking it this next semester. How hard is it really?

I got A's in Gen Chem I and II. Not without effort and dedication and keeping up with reading and LOTS of practice problems. If you really want it, you can get an A too.

I'm waiting to see how I did on my first exam. I feel like I probably got at least half the questions right...which feels good in some ways, but that doesn't translate into me passing the class. I'm going to bump up the amount of practice questions for each chapter, and make sure I study a bit each day. It's week four and I feel like I've slipped a bit with my study habits. It's so weird being back in school again after a few years away from the classroom!

I am currently in Gen Chem. English is not my professors first language, which can make it very tricky, I rarely understand him. However; I am utilizing my resources (my little sister is a BioChem major at another university) so I have her go through power points with me and re-explain the things that I didnt understand from the prof. I got a 93 on the first test and just took my second that I feel very confident abou as well.....and I have NEVER had any chemistry (in high school or otherwise) and I actually have not taken college Algebra either.....so I was scared to death but its not that bad if you take the time to actually understand the info...however this will be my one and ONLY Chem class ever!!!! LOL Good luck.

It will be my only Chem class too! I am kicking myself for not being better prepared for the first exam. It really wasn't that difficult, but I was so anxious I freaked out. Gah!

Not hard. the chem should be like an intro if u are taking it for a nursing pre-req so it shouldn't be that bad. it just takes alot of time to study for that class. I took gen chem as well as the intro chem and I found that both classe were pretty managable.

Honestly, chem has been the hardest class I have ever taken, and I have taken physiology, general biology, calculus, and nutrition. For me, o-chem has not been bad at all so far (I'm currently in my first quarter of it) but for some reason general chemistry was very hard for me to get used to. It could be due to the fact that I had never had it in my life, or that my class had 700 people in it. But it is my lowest GPA on my transcript!

Im actually taking my Chem prereq right now and I think it's fairly simple. As long as you pay attention in class you shouldn't have too much trouble. My lecture is awesome.. and my teacher has a great way of explaining things in a way we understand it. I was initimidated going into my lab.. but im heading into week 6 and its easier than I thought. I had my first "quiz" last week and thought I wouldn't do that great... I ended up getting a 90%. Really, if you may attention in class, you will learn more than you think you know. I would suggest reading the material, but I only read the first 2 chapters and then decided to just rely on what I learn in class and I've been doing great

Well, that is wonderful IF you have such a great professor. But, if you are in a situation like mine, where you have a really crappy professor, then you are pretty much on your own to connect all the dots. I read before class, but sometimes it doesn't help because he is jumping all over the place and goes over stuff in the next chapter that I haven't read yet. Not only that, but he is old school in the fact that he plays favorites and doesn't do anything online. He is a real DOOZEY, let me tell you...I read a few reviews of him on rate-my-professor and people had good things to say about him; but they were so obviously mistaken!! So, this class is really bad for me- it's hard because I have a crappy professor, not because the material is so hard. If he were helping us more (by being a better teacher) then, I would say that it's not that bad of a class. so ask around, make sure you get a GOOD PROF!!!!!
