Radiology Nurse or Radiologist Technologist?

by Mr_Tom

This is something I posted on the radiology forum but figured I would get more response here. This has been discussed in the past but I figured I would re-visit it. As some of you may have seen, I have already posted an intro thread.

I have been doing Graphic Design for the last 12 years and have tired of it. I have always wanted to enter the Health field so now I think I will. I always wanted to give Nursing a try than found Radiology. So I started poking around and thought it would be a good fit coming from Graphic Design.

Now I am reading here that the Radiology Technologist market is flooded?? Due to lots of schools opening up recently. I was 50/50 on Radiology or Nursing before reading this.

Where I live there is a "Fast Track" BSN program for those of us who have a previous Bachelor degree. This is what I'm leaning towards since it would be only 4 semesters after pre-classes (I'm loving that!). The radiology technologist is also 4 semesters after pre-classes.

Correct me if I am wrong but it sounds like Nursing would be a better option right now, all things considered? More $, bigger demand, similar career? I could always become a Radiology Nurse. I really do love technology but I think being in Nursing I would get plenty of that.

Any advise welcome. Muchas Gracias!!

Well I am in the same boat you are in. I currently fly for the airlines and think that I would rather be in a profession that has a little security. I am not a nurse but am doing what has to be done to get into a program. I also was looking into the radiology tech thing but found the opportunities are much more abundant in nursing. There is more demand for nurses and so many ways to advance either by experience or education.
