Question about a nursing school essay

  1. 0
    Hello!

I am very new to the forum, new as in this in my first post. In the past year I have decided to go to nursing school. I was first accepted to a school that wasn't accredited, so I switched gears and am now trying to apply to an accredited school. One of the things it asks for is an essay. There are 3 options....

    1. Share your plans or future goals after
    you graduate from MCCN.
    2. Elaborate on characteristics you see in
    an excellent health care professional.
    3. What is the greatest risk you have
taken and what did you learn as a
    result of it?

I am thinking of choosing essay #1, but I am a little nervous about writing it of course. What do you think they are looking for in my essay? Essays are supposed to be 300 words or less. My general plan is to be a trauma nurse, so I just would really appreciate some pointers on important things to include. I don't just want to say "when I grow up I want to be a nurse in the ER!" or sound like a complete fool in the essay. I am working on it at the moment, but was just looking for some general guidance and any pointers.

    Thank you!

You want to be a trauma nurse that's great. Throughout the essay mention the great educational benefits of MCCN, how they will help you as your career blossoms. Lay it on thick. How you were in an non accredited school, you knew that it would not have the educational standers of MCCN and would not fully prepare you for the challenging career as a trauma nurse..bla..bla.. bla.. one more thing - Good Luck!

Thank you Merlyn! Here is what I have so far, what do you think?

After becoming a Mount Carmel nurse, Iplan to work in an emergency room setting. Although an emergency roomcan be a very chaotic and hectic environment that requires intensecoordination between doctors, nurses, and even family members, Ibelieve the Mount Carmel College of Nursing program will give me theskills and knowledge I need to make it in such a fast-paced anddemanding situation. In addition to working in an emergency room togain experience, I will continue my education after obtaining my BSNby pursuing an MSN. I would like to obtain a dual certification asboth an FNP and ACNP with a focus on emergency care. Once my heartwas set on becoming a nurse, I immediately decided I wanted to takemy education as far as I could. Although being a registered nursewould be an honor in itself, I could not just settle for obtaining myBSN and being done. I will dedicate myself to this career and expandmy knowledge base so I can offer the best care possible for patients. After obtaining an MSN, my ultimate goal is to become a flight nurse. An education from Mount Carmel College of Nursing will give me thestrong foundation I need not only to become an exceptional nurse, butto achieve my goal of becoming a flight nurse as my careerflourishes. I chose Mount Carmel because I knew I had set such highgoals that I would have to attend a very highly accredited schoolwith a reputation such as Mount Carmel's that would help me becomethe multi-faceted nurse I need to be.

Thank you again! You made me feel so much better about the essay . I finished it tonight, tweaked it a little and fixed the formatting. I got the rest of my application together and I'm mailing it tomorrow!! The application deadline for fall quarter was extended so it was by a bit of luck I could still apply.
