PREGNANT! What about school now!!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

You have to be kidding me! Husband and I were planning to try for baby #2 after nursing school! And I just found out this morning that I am pregnant. I am supposed to get my letter in the mail next week too - not that it matters now. ARGH!

I guess the plan of action now is to continue with the BSN courses and take that route. I was wanting to start the ADN path first and then go for the online BSN. Well, I wasn't sure how to make the decision, but I guess it was made for me. Nursing school will have to hold off for another year. I need about 9 more pre-reqs for the BSN and all of them can be taken online at this point.

These next 5 weeks will be a killer - I am in school 6 days a week, taking 14hrs and working full-time. This will be hard with the physical part of being pregnant. I am just 5 weeks and already have the migraines and nausea. These didn't come until I was 3 months along with my first baby. I'll just have to take care of myself well.

I am in complete shock!!!! :uhoh3:

I want to wish you luck and say that it can be done. I had my second baby in August 06 and started NS in January 07. I even took a pre-req that ended 3 weeks before I gave birth!

We have had at least 4 women in my class that were pregrant during the school year and had their babies and were able to stay in the program, and I am in an ADN program.

I am in the end of my first year of a three year BSN program. Two girls in my class got prego on winter break; both due before class starts up again after summer break. The one who already as a kid is taking a year off and coming back the following year, she lives with her husband. The one who is having her first baby is planning on continuing on; and her husband in 600 miles away! Her mother-in-law is going to come up and help her with the baby....if she can have a baby with hubby being 600 miles away, stay in nursing school AND let her mother in law live with her during this time anyone can do it:lol2:

I think im in the same boat as you as well. I might also be pregnant and im hoping to start nursing school soon. I just hope that if i am i can continue to stay in school; cause i can't afford to take off right now. Good luck!!

Good luck! If there's a will there's a way. You'll be okay.

How old is your first child?

I think waiting a year and taking online classes is a great idea! I wouldn't rush at this point. Newborns take so much energy out of you, not to mention pregnancy. I wouldn't want any more stress than necessary during this time. I'm sure you can do whatever you set your mind to, but if you can afford to take some time off, that's what I'd do.

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone!

Our first daughter will be 4 this September.

I work full-time (can't go down to just 1 income) and will continue to do so while taking the remainder of the online courses for the BSN.

We were already trying to figure out how we could afford for me to go to school this Fall, since I wouldn't be able to work as much. Now with an added newborn daycare fee on the way it will be much more difficult. Just need to work my tail off in the meantime and keep saving up. Once I get my car paid off that will help tremendously too (just 11 more payments).

We will make it work, no worries.

Well my "baby" is 14 years old and I regret never having had another. My husband and I were going to wait 5 years in between kids and somewhere along the fifth year I developed some health problems which stopped us from having a second child. I have a friend in my physiology class that just had a baby and she is back in class with one of the highest grades in a class where the average grade is 68. So it can be done. Set up a good support system.

You are the best judge of what is a realistic workload. I wish you all the best and congratulations on being pregnant.

Congrats on baby #2! I found out last summer I was pregnant the day after I had registered for my prereqs (for fall)....since it was my first and I wasn't sure how I'd feel I decided to take the past 2 semesters off. I was pretty upset but so glad I did because I was sooo sick :barf01: anyhoo the year has passed so quickly already and I just registered for this coming fall. Just take care of yourself and that baby....nursing school will still be there...

YIKES!! I am sorry that things are a bit discombobulated right now!!! Congratulations though on that beautiful little one that you have inside you :)

I have so much admiration for you hearing you have one child, work full time and go to school. I'm trying to do the same and I'm scared to death.

I just had my baby in September and I'm working full time and trying to take my pre-reqs.

Any advice for a weany like me? How do you do it?
