Pre-nursing student

  1. hello im a pre-nursing student in my first semster of college. Nursing sounds very interesting to me. Most of my relatives are nurses and am always interested in their stories.

Does anyone else think that nursing is hard in their first year? Im strugling in my chem class and my Bio structure and functions class.

Any tips/hints would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not nurse yet, but I'm about to be going to school soon... but from what I understand it is a challenge and you should prepare yourself for an interesting ride... but it's worth it IMHO. Greatest of luck, I'm sure you'll be fine!

Yes, the prereq's are very difficult. I think some are meant to "weed" out the people that aren't really dedicated or passionate (just like any major). I had several friends drop out after their first semester. Stick with it if it's really what you want to do!

This is my third year of college and my first in the nursing program. While I thought the prereqs were hard, nursing is a whole new ballgame. I have done more homework this semester than I did for the other 2 years of classes combined. The tests are all multiple choice for once (which is great), but that don't make them easy! Good luck if you decide to go for it, I'm loving every minute of it.

if you are struggling in your classes it is either because you went into them with a not-so-good background in those sciences to begin with, or you just have not mastered the art of studying yet. studying is a skill like any other. remember how long it took to learn to ride a two-wheel bike or tie your shoes? same idea. until you put some effort into the actual skill of studying you will not only have problems with chemistry and biology, but other courses as well as the material gets more complicated.

here are some websites set up by college educators on how to study. try some of the tips they suggest. however, since you are already partially through your classes it may be difficult to recuperate and bring your current grades up. chemistry, in particular, builds upon what you began learning from the first day of class. unless you can catch up with what you failed to learn from day 1 and each successive day after that you may still have some serious problems with the course.
