Popular undergrad majors for students who will apply to a BSN program?

Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello! I'm planning on either going into a direct entry BSN program or majoring in some sort of health related major, obtaining the requirements and then applying for a BSN program my upperclass years. If I do this route, what are some popular majors for prenursing students (besides prenursing). Thank you!

It doesn't matter as long as your prerequisite classes are met. I didn't even have a declared major for my first two years. That said, a few classmates who did not get into the nursing program worked toward biology or human development degrees while working on their applications to reapply.

Whatever major you choose, make sure you meet the prereqs. No one major will ensure this.

If your goal is a BSN, why not work toward that from the get-go?

I don't understand your aversion to a pre-nursing course when you are (gasp) aiming for a nursing degree.

Why would you major in something else first? Just do the prerequisites and apply to the BSN

It is because a bunch of the colleges I am aiming for/ would be right for me do not have the prenursing option. They require you to major in something helpful (biology, chemistry, exercise science, etc.) and then apply for BSN your junior year. A few colleges I am considering although have the prenursing option, and I'm going to pursue that if I get accepted. I was just looking for majors that would be similar in case I don't get into those specific colleges. Thanks for your input.

Do you have life sciences degrees available in your area? Those degrees often meet the pre reqs for second entry nursing, as well as PT, OT and med school.

I'm graduating in May with my AS in Biology, which is my school's pre-nursing degree. There were two additional classes that I had to take to actually get the degree (as opposed to just transferring), so it was very close to everything I needed to transfer.
