Everyone has to take that course regardless of whether or not you go into that area.

And I am sure that area is represented to some degree on the NCLEX. It is in your best interest to study everything evenly until after you've passed the NCLEX. Then focus on the specific stuff.

You just need to become an RN. There is no specific course of study or degree in order to work in L&D.

Hi there, you just have to begin by entering an accredited nursing program.

You should research community colleges and universities in your state of residence (or state you plan to relocate to), if in the US. For nursing programs (RN or BSN), you can check said state's Board of Nursing (BON) website for a list of accredited programs.

After which, you'll want to find the 'nursing' section within the educational institution of your choosing and review the admissions requirements. Take some time to reflect on where you stand (I.e how many courses you may have completed previously, did any courses expire, etc). Finally, make an appointment with an admissions counselor to further assist you with questions you may have, that are specific to your program of interest.

Good luck!

And all school curricula require modules in areas other than L&D, like pediatrics and adults, medical/surgical, psychiatrics. And your practicums may have you doing your clinicals in nsg homes, public health/VNA agencies, clinics as well as hospitals.

You study as a generalist then decide on specialization that you like or choose to try after graduation. You'll pick up fundamentals in school, then advanced training comes with the job you've selected.

Firstly, are you in the U.S.? I am asking because some of your terminology seems different that what I am accustomed to seeing. If you are not in the U.S., educational requirements to work in labor & delivery (a.k.a. obstetrics) will be very different.
