Re: A&P 1 students,,,, How ya doing?
Congrats on getting an A on your first test! My A&P is going great! I was so lost that first few weeks when it was all about chemistry and stuff becuase I haven't done anything remotely like that since high school (I'm 30!). Now that we've moved on to the tissues, skin and now bones, things are much easier for my brain to comprehend! We had our first test already too, and I also scored an A (94) YAY! Our next test is next week (histology and integumentary), and then the following week we have our skull practicum in lab. The skull was my favorite thing so far - I have an excellent memory and I already have all the parts memorized. One tip I can share with you guys - right now since its close to Halloween, go out and buy a skull and skeleton from walmart or wherever! Even if you aren't taking A&P yet, so you'll have it when you do the skull and bones. It really helps to have it at home to refer to!

I have never spoken to ..or seen my professor and I'm doing great.
It's just repetition and memorization. You can not just pick up this book the night before a test and expect to do well. This class takes a lot of work. At my school they consider this class to be the "weed-eater". Meaning, this class is what weedeats out the nondedicated students who probably wouldn't do well as nurses anyway.
You really hit the nail on the head! I said something similar on another thread. My A&P teacher told us right out of his own mouth that the purpose of aspiring nursing students taking A&P prior to entering the program is to "weed out" those who can't succeed. You also don't have to be a genius. My IQ is average, I failed chemistry in high school, I left high school with barely a C average GPA and that was 12 years ago. But I'm dedicated. Like you, I have sacrificed alot to go back to school and put all my effort into this. I do not have a job - I am instead living on student loan money. I have two school aged children and a husband and a home to take care of. But everyone in my family knows that school has to be one of my top priorities right now. I sacrifice time spent with them in order to study. I remind myself that it's only for a while and that they will someday thank me for it. I also write, write, write so much that my carpal tunnel which hasn't bothered me since I was pregnant with my first child, has come back with a vengeance but I don't let it stop me.
It bothers me alot when people in my class, who are going for nursing or radiology which is also competitive at my school, complain about this or that. Get over it. Do whatever you HAVE to do in order to succeed in school. There is no excuse for not doing well. If you really can't do well in A&P, re-evaluate your career choice because it is ONLY going to get tougher from here.

Re: A&P 1 students,,,, How ya doing?
Hello everyone, only starting week 3 of AP 1, but so far I think it's going good. I have a very "fun" and informative instructor. He is a natropath doc during the day and then teaches our AP class at night. It is nice to get his opinion on this the "natural" way, not always treating conditions with drugs, and he makes the material much more relatable.
We had our first lab quiz last Monday and I got a 100% plus one of the bonus questions (covered regions (9), anatomical regional terms, pelvic girdle, and lower extremeties)! We have another tonight, but I am scared. There are much more things being covered this time (upper extremeties, cell (labeling and knowing fnx of each part), parts of the microscope, and what we are covering in lab tonight)!! I know it's doable, but I'd like to keep up the 100% scores. Our first lecture exam (Chapters 1-5 Marieb) is in a week, along with ANOTHER lab quiz! Hopefully I continue to do well. Great job to you all so far and for those who are struggling, keep on truckin along! Study a lot, take notes, re-write your notes, lables blank models (drawn or if you can your hands on great diagrams), and just review weekly! I know it's a lot to do esp. if you have other classes and have to work or have other commitments, but we can ALL do it! | | No. 25 |

Re: A&P 1 students,,,, How ya doing?
I made an A on my first test (just found out this morning) I thought I did pretty good on the test, maybe a B or C, but NEVER imagined I made an A! I am so excited and proud of myself, but all of my thanks goes to God!

Re: A&P 1 students,,,, How ya doing?
We have our first A&P test tomorrow. Chapters 1-4 in Saladin and a tiny bit of tissue stuff also. It's a lot of work but I think I'll be ok. I'm midway through chapter 3 re-reading everything and writing out detailed index cards. I'll finish it up after my volunteer orientation tonight.

Re: A&P 1 students,,,, How ya doing?
I got my mid-term grade today and, after dropping my lowest grade, I have an "A" -- 91 to be exact. Since I've already dropped my lowest test grade (66 on cellular respiration) I will have to make all "A's" on future tests, lab practicals, etc. to keep the "A"...I can do it! POSITIVE THINKING AND LOTS OF STUDYING!

Re: A&P 1 students,,,, How ya doing?
I took my second exam today over the Integumentary System and bones and skeletal tissue. I actually feel pretty confident about it this time. I find out what I made tomorrow, sooo I hope I did as well as I think I did!!!
Edit: Turns out he already put the grades up! I got an 84! I'm so freaking excited!!!!
