NEED HELP- Trying to apply for Nursing school

by JasminR

So Im in my 4th year in college and needless to say have made a couple mistakes during my freshman/sophmore year. I spent the last two years working hard to bring up my GPA and finishing all my prerequisites to Nursing. Now that ive finished Ive spent the last year trying to apply to Nursing school. I was hoping to apply for the spring but when i did one school had me as a transient student and hadnt downloaded my transcripts in time for the deadline, the college that Im at now has a great Nursing program but they require Overall GPA simply require too high a GPA for me to apply, I tried applying to a private Nursing School and they require 50 hrs of residency before i Graduate from them which is a waste of money I think. Now im down to my last options and dont know what to do. SHould i just wait it out and try for the Fall (No program that i know have has a Summer start), Should i take classes to get my LPN then eventually get my RN? In the meantime I picked up a minor of Health Services Administration, but have no idea what to do or who to ask! Please Help!

you can try to apply to ADN nursing program in community college. More likely you will have to apply for Fall 2010. If you have GPA above 3.0 on the last 60 units of B.S/B.A, you can apply for A-BSN or ELMSN in some universities. If you are living in So. Cal, there are a lot of good RN programs for you. If you live in somewhere else, you can check online within your state. I only familiar with nursing schools in So. Cal.

Do what ever you have to do to get your desitination, just don't give up. I graduated from a BSN program this ast may, I failed my nclex the first time, I took it again a week ago, just waiting for my results. I'm sooo anxious. But I'm going to stay strong too, because I know that other people are in much more difficult situations than myself. I wish you the best of luck. Please don't give up. Even if you want to do an LVN, go ahead, get your feet wet, and start somewhere.

It wasn't until my fourth and last year of undergrad that I decided I wanted to apply to nursing school. I just went ahead and graduated from my university and decided to take my prereqs at my local community college. I think that was somewhat of a poor choice by me because as soon as I graduated, many of the community colleges in my area cut me off from financial aid since I had my bachelor's degree already.

Now, since you're pretty much done with prereqs, I would take the interim time to research other nursing schools that you can apply to. The most frustrating thing during the application process is finding a prospective school, but realizing that you have everything but one or two classes. I wish they would find a way to standardize prerequisites. I would use the time between now and when you graduate to take those necessary classes (if you haven't already) or even take easy intro classes to boost your cumulative GPA so that you'll be competitive for ABSN or direct-entry MSN programs.
