Re: National University San Diego
Thanks Bri, for the info and encouragement.
I know there's orientation at NU tomorrow and I've left a couple messages for people (unfortunately later than I would have liked). I have work tomorrow in the morning and am not sure about either the time or locale of the orientation. If you (or anyone else) knows the details, I'd greatly appreciate a posting, if you can, before tomorrow. It's not the end of the world if not though; I'm not going to be attending the prog. for a little while, but thought it would be a good idea to pick up some much glossed-over information.
Cheers

Re: National University San Diego
The orientation I am attending is for admitted students in the October cohort. You should apply to the university first then apply to the nursing program when you have finished the prereqs. The application for nursing program can be found at www.nu.edu click on "Academic" >"Schools"> "health and human services" >"nursing" and nursing application. there is also more information on the various types of programs they offer.
Cheers!

Re: National University San Diego
I'm a newly admitted student at Nat. U., but I'm still taking my pre req. classes at a CC. Hopefully I will finish all the pre. reqs. by spring of next year, then I will apply for the nursing program. What are the chances of me getting in the October cohort? Also, I have a some questions about the new BSN admission process:
-What's the proctored essay. Is the subject standard or does it change?
-What's the TEAS?
...Besides the fact that nursing programs are competetive everywhere in California, it seems that N.U is adding extra bars to the admission process just to make EVEN more money.

Re: National University San Diego
I don't believe National is trying to make the process to enroll more difficult to make more money. The process isn't anymore difficult than before, if anything, it's begining to be more structured. They only have a certain number of seats per cohort, and when you are doing clinicals, by law, there can only be a certain number of nursing students per unit. But, because SDSU isn't taking apps. for next spring, you can bet there are going to be many more people trying to get into National. Applying for nursing school is never easy, no matter what school you choose! I am not sure when you will get into the program though, AsaNisiasa. If it helps, I applied 1 month before the changes, in June, and have been accepted to the July 09 cohort. Good luck with everything.

Re: National University San Diego
Hi All,
I was admitted to the January 09 BSN cohort at NU and just got an orientation "packet" today saying I needed to take an additional NSG 211 course prior to starting in January. I don't think there are any classes for the remainder of the year and I'm totally panicked I can't start in January now. Also, we need to be CPR certified prior to starting classes, get all the immunization records signed off by a doctor, financial aid, malpractice insurance and a background check by mid November. Why weren't we told all of this sooner and only given a month or so to complete everything? Anyone else have a complete breakdown like I am by being so overwhelmed by the process?

Re: National University San Diego I wouldn't worry about it. I am going to be starting in July 09, and I am sure that the program is designed so that everything is set up to go pretty smoothly. I am curious, what did your nursing packet consist of? I received a packet when I got accepted, its only about 4 pages long, is that the one you got? The CPR cert is easy, I already have mine from about a year ago, it was $50 for the class and only lasted about 2 hours or so. I think in terms of insurance and everything, they will help us out. I wouldn't panic though, you still have a bit of time. Give the nursing dept. a call, I am sure they could give you more info. | | No. 86 |

Re: National University San Diego
I spoke with admissions regarding the Los Angeles BSN program. They told me to take the 2 prereqs left plus a library science class.
They said I can't apply until those are finished and then it is possible to be admitted for Fall 2009.
Are the requirements for the accelerated BSN the same as the regular track because I already hold a bachelors degree.

Re: National University San Diego
misslolalady,
I only received a one page "accepted" letter that listed the pre-requisites I still had to take. I was taking the classes when I received the letter as they knew I needed them both before entering the program. The orientation package was a long list of the items (stated in my previous post) that you needed to complete or have by the orientation day, which is in 6 weeks for me. I found out that the NSG class is actually the first class of the program, so technically it's not a pre-req as we know it.
as27,
not sure what the process is like for the other BSN programs. I'm talking specifically about the accelerated BSN for non-RN's. I was able to apply prior to finishing 3 classes and was accepted (never heard of library science). I'm currently taking the final 2. Have a BS in biology from a local school, graduated about 10 years ago. Can you meet with an advisor? They should be able to go through your transcripts with you and tell you exactly which classes you need. Hope this helps!

Re: National University San Diego
Hi!
I'm hoping someone here can please answer my question because no one at the university has responded to me yet. I've been recently accepted into NU and was wondering if ALL your classes (i.e. ILR 260) have to be complete in order to apply for the nursing program? Or can you apply while you're still in the process of completing your prerequisites, like some other nursing schools.

Hello!
I was accepted into the Oct'08 Cohort. I don't have the ILR260 or the Multiculural "something-or-the-other" class, nor the Statistics prereq. You could pay a fee to by-pass the computer class; the others are placed within the program. The last "regular" class that I attended, had a few R.N's in the class. By this, I mean that they passed the NCLEX, and were taking classes to satisfy the BSN degree. I hope this helps. Good Luck | | 378 members
