I just don't know if my GPA is high enough to even be considered...I have a 3.17 overall and approx. a 3.3 in prereqs...hopefully it is not too low! What did you guys have?
That is what I had as well (3.17), I think they really pay attention to the Essay, b/c I know people with better GPA's then me who did not get accepted. Its an overall package deal. The TEAS test, the Essay, the GPA. You get the idea.

Hey question has anyone ever had ***** ****? We just found out form **** that she will be our theory teacher for Med-Surg. Any info on her would be much appreciated!

STAFF REMINDER....

Please do not post names of instructors or other school officials. The Terms of Service for allnurses states:

No potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. While it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:
  1. It is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. Your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. While allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. Gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. Please do not give out personal information about others. Do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

Some of the posts have been edited to remove names.

Thanks for your encouragement everyone and congratulations to everyone who was accepted!I had a 3.47 GPA in prerequisites, not sure what it is overall. I do think the essay and the TEAS scores are what will "make or break" you. I didn't think my TEAS score was all that fantastic, but I'm willing to bet I did pretty well on the essay. Now I'm busting my butt trying to get all the requirements taken care of for orientation in August...it's less than a month away! Crazy, ya know?

Do any of you know how to calculate prerequisites? I think I might have done it wrong. Is there a sheet that tells you how much each class weighs? Also, do they just count your sciences or do they count speech and English too? Thanks!

Twilight,
I do not know exactly how they calculate the grades, but I do know for sure that they only include your Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology grades to come up with your "score". This is 40% of your total candidate score, with the TEAS and Essay making up the other portions. Hope this helps!

AKcire888, thank you so much! That makes me feel much better! I took Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology at Palomar College and I got two A's and a B. This make me feel like I still have a chance to get in! Thanks again!!!!

What kind of books did you guys use to help you study for the TEAS exam? Did you find that they helped a lot? I was looking into the Kaplan and McGraw books. They are both called Nursing School Entrance Exams. Thanks for your input in advance!

Hi there NU takes into consideration Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology and Statistics for your prerequisite GPA. I don't know about you guys, but I took all of these classes (except statistics) at community college so it wasn't on the same scale that NU uses. The easiest way to figure out your weighted grade is by doing a search for a "Weighted GPA Calculator". There are tons of them online. Don't forget to include your lab units...

Micro Lecture = 4.5 units
Micro Lab = 1.5 units
Anatomy Lecture = 4.5 units
Anatomy Lab = 1.5 units
Physiology Lecture = 4.5 units
Physiology Lab = 1.5 units
Stats = 4.5 units

To do this by hand, multiply the units for each class by the grade you received. You know, "A" is worth 4 points, "B" is worth 3 points and so on. Add up the numbers for each of the prerequisite classes and divide by the total number of units. The total # of units is 22.5. It's the same for everybody Hope that makes sense!
