Re: National University San Diego
Thank you for the welcome SanDiegoNurse2bAt48. You are right about the waiting times and money issues. But I guess I will have to way the pros & cons. Being in Italy is very nice. I get to travel so much and to so many different places for a fraction of the cost if I was coming from the States. I am not in the Navy anymore, my husband is still Active duty. We are in the Navy.....(You see I said we, b/c I support him too...)
Socalsi - I am a prior HM as well and I work in the Navy College Office now, how many credits were you given for A&P? 1 or 3? That makes the difference, also to be honest I would recommend you still take A&P I along with II b/c even if they accept your credits, you still need II. Go ahead, it will be an easy 'A'
Now on the MGIB, I have Chapter 30 at the moment, but I am transferring to Post 9/11 b/c it pays more. Think about it this way:
Chapter 30 is more of a reimbursement situation. Yes they will pay you the amount you are authorized every month 'AFTER' you call and verify enrollment, but you do not get all the perks that you will get with the new one.
Post 9/11 will pay for you Tuition at the highest rate per term at a public university/college at instate rate. (NU is not public they are private so you will have to come out of pocket on Tuition) Also Post 9/11 will pay for 'Fees' as well

(no out of pocket fees for me) plus you will get BAH at the rate of an E-5 w/dependants at the zip code of your school (That's about 2300 for SD) and you also get 1000 for books every term....Hopefully they will change their mind and participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, but who knows....
Word of Caution: To get all your extra perks, you have to be 'OFF' Active duty....The do not give you the BAH strippend while on Active duty...If you start while on Active duty use your TA...It will be covered, plus if it ends up to be more, you can request Top-Up with the VA.
I know I will have to pay tuiton but oh well. It's worth it. I will still make out more than if I keep Chapter 30
