I am working towards applying to NU as well. I just graduated today with my AA in Health Science Technology from Coastline. I am stationed in Naples, Italy at the moment so I won't apply until later to get in the July 2010 class. SD will be our next duty station if all goes well. I have had good contacts at NU since I started researching schools. I am very interested in NU or CalState San Marcos. Only problem with NU is they don't participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program with the VA and I am prior military using my MGIB for Post 9/11. So I will still end up having to come out of pocket. If I can get into CalState then I won't have to pay for anything but books. But we will see.

Well congrats to all who have graduated.

Welcome Neshia :wlcmblks: and I would like to say for your service to our country. What branch are your in? Wow, Naples, Italy....I hope to go there someday. Anyways, NU is a great school since you can get through the nursing program much quicker than San Marcos and not such a long waiting period too. BUT, money is an issue too. Either way, I just want to say welcome and that this board has a wealth of info. so ask any question you may have and someone will have the answer. Good luck!

Hey guys!

Im planning on appling for the lvn-bsn program at national that starts in may 2010. The application deadline is dec. 4th. Can anyone give me info about their application process timeline? Like how long it takes to process your app, how long it takes to schedule and take the TEAS and essay? Thanks a lot!

I went to NU on friday and talked to Admissions. I asked them if they will accept my A/P from my smart transcript as being an Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. They couldn't give me a direct answer if they do. Has any Hospital Corpsman had there A/P credits count? Also I was wondering which G.I. Bill would work better to attend NU. The Chapter 30 Montgomery Bill or the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill?

Step one: you have to finish your preq classes and meet the minimum GPA. Submit the application. Once approved you will be invited to go take the TEAS and Essay.
i applied for LVN-BSN in Feb 2009, then i received the email to go take the TEAS exam toward the end of march. 2009. They informed me the LVN-BSN program is once a year and the class starts in May 2010. They will be sending the mails out 1st week of July, so i will know if am accepted or not. December is too far you may want to apply soon.
For those sumitted the aplication for BSN, they looking for Jan 2010 class.

Thank you for the welcome SanDiegoNurse2bAt48. You are right about the waiting times and money issues. But I guess I will have to way the pros & cons. Being in Italy is very nice. I get to travel so much and to so many different places for a fraction of the cost if I was coming from the States. I am not in the Navy anymore, my husband is still Active duty. We are in the Navy.....(You see I said we, b/c I support him too...)

Socalsi - I am a prior HM as well and I work in the Navy College Office now, how many credits were you given for A&P? 1 or 3? That makes the difference, also to be honest I would recommend you still take A&P I along with II b/c even if they accept your credits, you still need II. Go ahead, it will be an easy 'A'

Now on the MGIB, I have Chapter 30 at the moment, but I am transferring to Post 9/11 b/c it pays more. Think about it this way:

Chapter 30 is more of a reimbursement situation. Yes they will pay you the amount you are authorized every month 'AFTER' you call and verify enrollment, but you do not get all the perks that you will get with the new one.

Post 9/11 will pay for you Tuition at the highest rate per term at a public university/college at instate rate. (NU is not public they are private so you will have to come out of pocket on Tuition) Also Post 9/11 will pay for 'Fees' as well (no out of pocket fees for me) plus you will get BAH at the rate of an E-5 w/dependants at the zip code of your school (That's about 2300 for SD) and you also get 1000 for books every term....Hopefully they will change their mind and participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, but who knows....

Word of Caution: To get all your extra perks, you have to be 'OFF' Active duty....The do not give you the BAH strippend while on Active duty...If you start while on Active duty use your TA...It will be covered, plus if it ends up to be more, you can request Top-Up with the VA.

I know I will have to pay tuiton but oh well. It's worth it. I will still make out more than if I keep Chapter 30

Go to http://www.gibill.va.gov/GI_Bill_Info/benefits.htm

And read about the VA benefits. If you are still confused, go talk to a VA Representative or call the VA....If you need more help, PM me....

Thanks CarolLVN!

I cant apply any earlier because im finishing up my pre-reqs right now. Theyre sending out acceptance letters in July? When I went to the pre-nursing forum, she told us that it doesnt matter when you apply, they'll send out acceptance letters in March 2010 after the app. deadline and everyone has tested. Maybe theyre giving us different info?
