Re: National University San Diego
Hi, Did you need to take the ILR class before you applied there? I will be completing the last of the sciences by April 08, but I have yet to take the ILR class. How long did it take til they accepted you, and if you dont mind my asking, what was your GPA? My admissions rep says the average applicant who is accepted as of July has a cummulative 3.3, all prereqs complete, and several letters of rec. Do you feel this is accurate? Also, I am concerned about the length of time they take to decide whether or not to admit you. My rep said it is about 6-8 months now to hear back, and that if you get denied, the wait is 1 YEAR from the date of the DENIAL date to reapply, NOT the initial app date. Seems like quite a few hoops to jump through, and for this reason, I am hoping to get into SDSU's RN program, as I am already an undergraduate student there. We'll see. Congrats on your admission, any advice you have to offer is greatly appreciated!!

Re: National University San Diego
Hi! I applied and I feel your pain. I almost went NUTS! It is so worth it,though. I applied back in 2006 for the BSN program, I was accepted, and can you believe that I actually thought that I had to come up with the money to attend? I was straight from New Orleans and didn't understand how things ran. I sat out and ended up recieving another invitation to June's 2007 orientation. Now, when I left N.O, I was accepted into an ASN program. I need 2 classes, Microbio and the Lab, and I will attend the October cohort. I believe that when you start nursing classes when all of your pre-reqs are done or close to it.
National is a private school, so they do things a bit different. Different but ACCREDITED. Lots of nurses went through there. I was told by my counselor that hospitals like National's students because we finish the required classes before other schools and you are more likely to get a job as a nurse before you graduate . Please get a private loan, if you need to 'cuz the classes are intense and working may not do it; you gotta eat. I hope this helps.

Re: National University San Diego
U.S hospitals would recruit nurses from Iceland if they wanted to come. In fact, most nurses that I have encountered were Philipina/o. The choice is up to you and depending on where you want to live in the U.S. The western part (i.e:California, Arizona, etc.) has a large Asian population. As an African-American, I am originally from the Southern states where there is a lot of history and culture. It is very important to hold on to that here. Another thing is that you have a great advantage because you speak Tagalog and English. This is huge. Spanish is important too, but nurses always seem to get by, you know.
I suggest you listen to your heart. Nurses are needed DESPERATELY!

Re: National University San Diego
Okay. I will start at the beginning. First off, it would be a great idea to get a catalog and speak to an advisor (either Rancho Bernardo, Spectrum, or Carlsbad location, not sure so please call 1-800-NAT-UNIV and follow the promps). Word to the wise: get your books Well ahead of time; please go thru Half.com or Amazon.com-as there is no "in-school" book store. You could talk to a financial aid adviso and apply for loans (Stafford or go trough a private lender. If you have a rich uncle or a parent with really great credit, this is the way to go. The nursing program admisssions, after you finish your pre-reqs, takes about 2-8 months to respond, it is according to available space, not a waiting list.Once in, if you need to work, do a job that is flexible (three 12hr shifts (36hrs/week) on the weekends or nights would better benefit you. Caregiving is okay but it is not stable, as most "senior" caregivers get the night shifts. It also depends soley on the company; ask them about their ability to "book' clients. Some are great and some are horrrible. The Nursing program is INTENSE- no time to breath... must Study More. You could sit for your NCLEX in one year and take 7 months of on-line classes to complete your BSN, talk to the advisor. Good Luck!!! | | No. 17 |

Re: National University San Diego
Your welcome! Most advisors don't have the in depth info that people in the Nursing Department do; they help you get into tyhe school itself. This is the important part; aside from entering into the Nursing program, of course. According to the website: http://www.nu.edu/Academics/Schools/SOHHS/nursing.html ,there are multiple locations, including Mission Valley, Carlsbad, and Spectrum (which may be closer to you, as well). Not all locations have the labs that Student Nurses need: beds with near death -looking manniquins, sharps and the such. I could find out why the classes are not in the locations on the site. The best person to speak to about the program, truly is Jessica Follensby in administration. I don't know her number off-hand but if you call the toll-free number, ask for her and you will be connected. She is Hard to Reach; if you catch her on the phone, Please, for the Love of All Mankind, ask her All of the questions that your heart could muster. Bonnie is the Director of Nursing: her info is : Ms. Bonnie Marblestone (858) 642-8392 bmarblestone@nu.edu.
Just let her know your position and she should answer your questions; she is pretty nice. The teachers and faculty are also working R.N's , so don't be discouraged. Rancho Bernardo , which has the labs and other facilities for us "nurslings" is far from Mission Valley; please think of the benefits; nurses are needed but Great Nurses are desired. I'll keep you posted...

Re: National University San Diego
Thanks! I've got B's in Sociology and A&P1 and A's in A&P2 and Psy. Just registered for Microbiology at Grossmont come Spring Semester. I'm a pretty good student. Got A's and B's in the LVN courses too.
But whats funny is that I know a student that applied with all her pre reqs finished that had an excellent grade point average and was turned down! So there must be other factors going on. Makes me nervous. Plus all I get now are B's.
