Mom got me Flash Cards- HOLY MOLY!

Students Pre-Nursing

Published

My mom picked up flash cards for me for a/p I the other day while she was in Borders.

They are "Barron's Anatomy Flash Cards" 264 total, all I can say is HOLY MOLY I'm suppose to memorize all these bones/muscles etc. :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3:

The benefit I see is I will at least have a head start LOL....

I sure hope that a/p is the tough class...cause if it's more intense than this memorization I'm in a tough spot LOL.

SHESH off to do some more flashin :uhoh21:

Yep, you gotta memories all those bones and muscles, plus the inerstion site, and lots more. But it's pure memorization. Have fun!

My daughters have been reading the cards- "mom did you know X does Y". LOL nope, I didnt but I will soon!....

Probably by the time I'm done, my girls will know as much as me.

Hi Mudnuri, I'm going to have my oldest daughter help me with memorization, too! It helps to have helpers.

Yes, it can be very overwhelming. I had A&P I in '94 and I'm taking it over again in the fall...I hope I can recall some of my stuff...but I'm seriously doubting it.

Thankfully my 9 year old is very interested in the human body- she's in love with the show "operation" and wants to be a surgeon...(dream big baby girl!)... She's probably going to be quizzin me on the stuff since her little mind only has to worry about "nothing" while mine has to not only memorize this stuff, but worry about bills, the house, the girls blah blah the list goes on. Thankfully the class doesnt start till september 6th, so I have some time to prepare!

Good luck to those of you that will be starting with A&P this semester! :) The practicals aren't as bad as you think, honest! One thing that helped me with the bones, was actually drawing them out on poster board, and then labeling all of their parts. It's not memorizing the bone that is difficult, it's knowing the names of all the little bumps and indentations, and being able to SPELL them correctly (it's a pain in the butt for all the latin muscle names) Also..make little rhymes and sentences to help! We used "Tiny Tim Can't Have Pizza This Late Sally" for the bones in order around the wrist.. Trapezium, Trapezoid, Capitate, Hamate, Pisiform, Triquetral, Lunate, Scaphoid...I know it SOUNDS crazy, but it's the little things that will keep you sane!

If it's available, go into the lab room whenever you have free time and actually pick up and get use to the bones..You will have to know rights from lefts as well, that gets somewhat confusing!! Oh yeah..the A&P coloring book that should be for sale in your college bookstore is helpful as well, that's what I used for muscles and then in A&P2 for cardiac..

Good Luck!! You'll do great!!

The coloring books are really great! You can get them @ any book store. Which brings up another thought. You can learn things 3 different ways, auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Most people have a primary method. ("I see what you're saying" = a visual learner)

If you're having problems w/a concept, try using a different method. By feeling the bumps on the bones, or moving a body part to amplify the names. And when you take the test on this, most students are moving arms and legs, and feeling things on themselves, trying to remember.

Using the coloring books is a good way to integrate visual and kinesthetic.

Good luck! :) My 7-yr old helped me...she always wanted me to point out the muscles/bones on her.

If you click on my name, and look at my contact info, you'll see my website link. I have powerpoint quizzes for the muscles. (at least the ones we had to know.)

A&P coloring books are good, as well as looking up photos, diagrams, etc online. (Learn as many views as you can!!!)

I "pre-studied" also, and I think it helped. I also read my notes outloud while recording them, and made a CD of them. I listened to the CD everytime I got in the truck (to and from school, on the way to take a test, etc.) I also reviewed my notes on the way up to the testing center from my truck. My thinking is if one thing can stand out from last minute reading, it may help. :)

(SLH: I also took it back in '93, and had to retake it in Spring '05...some of it does come back to you, at least to where you can say, "I remember learning something about that." LOL)

Good luck to everyone about to embark on the adventures of A&P 1! :chuckle

Origin, insertion and action- that killed me. I think the cards will be helpful though. Good luck!

That was very kind of getting you the flashcards. I know that at first it seems overwhelming but then it becomes easier becaues it is mostly memorization until you get to the physiology part. Practice and more practice is indeed the key. :)
