Register Today!- Feb 2, '12 by momtojoshi did not receive a message....sorry..
I take notes as well...i listen to the recordings in my car....sometimes when i am making flash cards i will listen as well.....
the list of potential test questions he has..... I write them out....both on paper and on cards....i have to write over over for it to sink in......
i would love your review sheets....i will try an attempt at sending you my regular email thru private message...
thanks again!! - Feb 9, '12 by momtojoshwhere did all the micro takers go??....lets get this up and running again.....
how is everyone doing?....I have my first test and I am SO dreading it!!!.......I am not sure what the prof wants.....he is just spitting out info in lecture and spitting it out at a tremendous amount of speed......he has a list of 22 "potential" test questions....he cant veer from this list....he says we need to know everything on the list...and he will choose his questions....sounds easy right......it should be....but I cant remember everything.......some stuff i know....not nearly enough though......
like one is this......know the metric system and how to convert within...ok....we never went over anything in class about the metric system.....just that us americans are slow to catch on that this system works....he is canadaian....i know that a bacteria is small micro meter small....and i know i should know this....
another is describe the role and structure of....cytoplasm,nucleoid,ribosomes,inclusions..... ok...easy right.....but not for ME...i can not grasp this stuff.....i read about it....i write it all out...i listen to it again from my recorder...i find it somewhat interesting at times.....but it will not stick!!
so...needless to say....i am very afraid of this test and the whole class at that....i dont think i am going to pass....i made A's in
A & p 1 and 2.....
he even said to us you are going to be abit freaked out when you get your first test....it will be a bunch of questions with a whole lot of white space.......but hey...at least i gave you a list to go from....thanks...
HELP!!
- Feb 9, '12 by purplcavgo back to your AP and learn structure of....cytoplasm,nucleoid,ribosomes. Go to youtube and watch videos. you have to do a little bit every day to get it in your head! Good luck!!
I got a 93 on my first lecture test. Lab test this week. We are working on gram stains and simple stains, using the loop and creating cultures in media. I really like my class. - Feb 10, '12 by RanaynayMomtojosh, I think you just need to take a deep breath and break all your questions up, work on one at a time. I've found that pneumonics work wonders when needing to memorize the information. Also, the word association game really helps!
Example: First glance 'ribosomes' has 'rib' in it which makes me think of meat which is a source of protein, and wha-la ! Ribosomes make protein chains.
With the metric system think back to chemistry and converting moles to grams to atoms, set your problems up that way and cancel out units.
Purplecav, great job on your test you must be proud !
Micro students I have a question:
I'm drawing a concept map for aerobic respiration we have a word bank. Does this sound accurate?
Glycolysis results in the synthesis of 2 ATP and Acetyl-CoA which is used in the krebs cycle which includes substrate-level phosphorylation yielding 2 ATP used in oxidative phosphorylation which includes the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis resulting in 34 ATP.purplcav likes this. - Feb 10, '12 by GodivadessI'm taking microbiology and A&P 1 this semester. It's challenging but I'm enjoying it. So far so good. I'm kind of sciency anyway so I'm like a kid in a candy store. I have a BS in Physics...lol!PinkCupcake likes this.
- Feb 24, '12 by momtojoshgot an 84 on my first micro exam!!....I am SO happy.....as our prof warned us most will fail his first test......class average was 62....
- Feb 24, '12 by purplcav@ MomtoJosh - I know how freaked out you can be for the first test. Whatever you did, it worked! Congrats! I am currently holding an A in my class. We are having a test this week on Metabolism, so I had to review Glycolysis, Krebs and Electron Transport for 5 hours last Sunday. I feel like I am so ready for this test!
- Feb 24, '12 by momtojoshgood luck on your test......i would love to get an A...i will TRY to get an A cause all my other sciences i had As.....but i know i can breathe cause i was accepted to the program allready...so if i gets Bs on all test...i will be happy....this is a hard class....esp when i last had bio 30+ yrs ago...yikes...i am reviewing more than anything....
at our school micro isnt required til the 3rd semester of nursing school.....but i wanted to get ALL sciences out of the way before i start the RN program.... - Feb 25, '12 by purplcavIt is very wise to get all of the sciences out of the way. There is a boy in my class who is in his 2nd sem of nursing WITH micro! CRAZY!!! Thank you for the luck!
- Feb 25, '12 by lindsayk728Is this semester over yet?!! I hate my micro class so much
. It's not the material I don't like it's the format of the class. We meet only once a week strictly for labs...there is no lecture class. Basically I have to read the chapters on my own and teach myself. Test is 100 questions on 6 chapters at a time...no study guide. The teacher is horrible at emailing back and gives absolutely no direction in the class. And what makes this all more frustrating is I didnt even voluntarily enroll in this class. The one I originally was in got cancelled and this was the only other one available
So needless to say, I'm counting down the days until may.
