Hi everyone! I'm taking Microbio this semester too. It's a difficult class but so interesting (as I'm sure you all know)
Good luck to everyone this semester and I'll be sure to check this thread again

Good luck in Micro! Are you taking any other classes?
  4. by peacelovestar
the classes I'm taking are: sociology, french(for my own personal enjoyment) micro + the lab, chem + the lab.

LOL, yes they cancelled school that one day. I think the news coverage the week before leading up to that Monday was over hyped.

This semester, I am enrolled in :
    Sociology
    Life-Span & Development Psychology
    Nutrition
    Microbiology

Taking Chem and Micro at the same time = very brave

I grew up in Houston, so I know how that goes The canceled school one day here (in Dallas) -- it was our second day of school!

no, in my opinion taking nutrition and microbiology in the same semester = very brave.
i absolutely sucked at nutrition. i never want to take that class ever again.

my chem is actually pretty easy so far. it started later in the semester and so i had already been to a few microbio labs (and survived... much to my surprise--i suck at labs sometimes) anyway, after reading the prelab assignment for chem i was just like "ah! piece of cake"

I am taking the following courses.

    Psychology of Human Development
    Humanistic Psychology (Workshop style class)
    Microbiology + Lab
    Sociology

So, far I have to say that Micro is my favorite.

Has anyone already taken Human Anatomy of Human Physiology?
If so would you recommend taking one of them in the summer?

Micro is fun so far. I have learned tremendously in such little time.

I toook A&P already about 2 years ago, but received a "B" I wasn't nearly as focused as I am now and I plan on taking it again. If you were to take A&P at my school, I would not recommend taking it during the summer Very fast paced and I truely believe it tests your time-management skills. There is A LOT of info to learn in that class. My school now offers an "intro to A&P" course for those who believe they will have a hard time in the A&P I. My department head says the pass rate increased for those who completed the introductory course.

Unless you have awesome time management skills and nothing else to do during the summer, I do not recommend taking A&P during a summer session. It's a really intense class to take in such a compact format. It's possible, but it takes A LOT of dedication.

How much are you guys studying a day/a week for Micro?
My first test is on Tuesday, Ch 1-7 (About 215 pages), and although I was keeping up with the reading, I was not really "studying" as much as I should've..you know? Kind of just...taking it in but not really. So last weekend (a week and a half before my test) I started putting in at just about and sometimes more than 3 hours a day of studying.. and at first I was afraid I had waited too long (takes awhile to retain this stuff..) but I'm finally getting it! I plan on spending tomorrow (Friday) through Monday in the school library all daaaaay. Thank God I don't work! This stuff is so interesting when you can just sit there for hours; reading your text. I can't wait to see what the test is like. He really didn't give us any guidelines for it, which is fine, but just a bit more difficult since the questions could be on ANYTHING. I also heard he tests on really obscure "random" stuff so you really got to know your stuff!! Oh well.

So anyway, today in lab a bunch of us were talking about how far along we got, as far as studying goes. I was SHOCKED that some of the girls said "Oh I just started reading CH 1. I think I'm on page 10" And I thought I was bad!! I mean, the test is on Tuesday! Geez.

So now I'm curious..how much do YOU study? Where do you study? What are your study habits like? I have a whole little system and it works wonders for me.

    Anyway, good luck everyone!!

I study a lot. The key for me is to actually have a grasp on the material before I even go into lecture. I read the chapters, We get the lecture notes before the lecture so I go over those with the chapter I am reading to look for key points. I use the online/cd rom tools. I look at other sources I make flash cards and I do the work book study guide (mostly all of this is before lecture). After lecture I start on the next chapter this keeps me about a week ahead and it works for me. I have our first Test on Tuesday chp 1,10 and then the following thursday ch 4,5,6 hard studd IMO metabolism, genetics. So i am trying really hard to focus on that, i feel like I am already prepared for the test on Tuesday so the most I will do is Review a little on monday for that.

In between all of that I do the samethings for my AP102 class.

only 15 more weeks to go lol.

I have to admit that I don't study as much as I should be. I normally study a lot for my classes, but this semester is hard to get into the grove of (if you kwim). I think it is because I am applying for nursing schools for fall 2007 and I keep thinking that my grades don't matter as much this semester. I know I need to keep up my grades because I plan on going to graduate school. We are having our first Micro test next week and I only studied a couple of hours (besides the reading). I really should be studying instead of being on this site
