Are you all ready!!? I am super nervous so I wanted to create a thread for support!!

In my nervousness I bought some additional supplies which I hope helps! I got this for Micro Lab

http://www.amazon.com/Photographic-Atlas-Microbiology-Laboratory/dp/0895828723/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1377279257&sr=1-1&keywords=atlas+microbiology

It was recommended by my school and the reviews are great.

I also got the study guide the goes along with my text book.

I hope this helps!! I'm going full time this semester but I will be studying my micro every single day/night!

Im also taking microbiology this fall as well as re taking physiology (got a C during the summer) and this will be my last semester of pre reqs. We also did the exact same lab!! Im excited for this class yet im freaking out still lolll i do enjoy wearing a lab coat in class though :p

Specializes in PICU.
We took cultures today from things around our school, bodies, wherever. Next week we get to see what kind of bacteria are growing on these seemingly innocent places!

(I did my cell phone)

That sounds super exciting!! I can't wait to hear the results! Keep us updated!

Took it last semester. I bought the atlas too thinking it would help.... I never opened it for class. Its a great class that can be challenging at times but you will be fine if you apply your self.

My first class is on Saturday but it's a hybrid class so we already had introductions online. I'm excited but nervous! It's an hour away and starts at 8 am! At least I have a friend in that town where I can crash the night before :)

We did this for our first lab- a week ago. we saw the results on Thursday-NASTY. i took a sample from the bottom of my purse:barf02: we also took samples from the air...it was even gross to see just the particles settling in the dish just from sitting out.

I still do not know how I feel about this class. I was terrified to take it....It's not as bad as I thought but we will see when I have my first lab quiz next thursday:nailbiting:

Lol, just found out this week in Micro that bread is supposed to smell alcoholy (made this word up). I remember throwing a whole loaf away about a year or so ago. I am learning a lot every time I go to class. I wish my teacher would stick to the book more than her wild off-the-chain stories that scare the mess out of the class. Lab is cool, though. Good luck everybody.

Specializes in Maternal Child, Home Health, Med/Surg.

Has anyone had a quiz yet? We have our first quiz on the microscope on Monday. It's kind of amazing how my instructor is. Very laid back, and comfortable. :)

Is anyone doing it online through Cayuga Comm. College? I am and looking for a buddy.

First exam is on monday! I love my teacher and this class! I really hope I do well on this test and I hope everyone is doing well so far!

I am still trying to figure what I'm supposed to be getting out of this class? So far it's been infection control, specific examples of various strains of pathogens. I guess it's just so much different than the depth of Anatomy and Physiology that I feel like I'm missing something but so far have done well on all lab and lecture quizzes. I'm wondering if it's just too broad of a topic to go too much into depth, granted it's only the first exam in a week so we'll see how the semester goes!

Good luck again!

My class is going really fast it seems. We already gave a test this week. I was under the impression this class was going to be real easy, and it doesn't appear that way at this time. No ma'am. Its 1239am and im waiting for my daughter to go back to sleep so I can study : l

I've wondered a bit of what we're learning too. Granted, we're only in the second week, but we've gone over prokayotic and eukaryotic cells, and the history. That's about as far as we've gotten. We have an exam later this month and a quiz tomorrow.
