Ok I know that our A&P in veterinary medicine is different...but keep in mind our A&P consists of approximately 20 differtent animals who at times have extremely different make up. Also, having taken both the short and long courses in human medicine, I can say the level of difficulty is approximately the smae when comparing the two fields. Our medical micro is the same...had nurses and others in the same class with me. My thoughts for you...if you can, get something easier out of the way and only tackle one of these. I attempted to do both at the same time. While I was not failing, I was not living up to my standards in either class and was worried that as a result would have not retained NEARLY as much info as needed from either. Plus, I felt that once I had gone through A&P and my path & dz class, I had a greater grasp of the info coming at me in micro. JMHO

I would agree with the above poster's comments to take something easier with one of the harder sciences. I am currently in Micro (4 hours a week) & Lab (4 hours a week) , and it's not an easy class at all. Lot's of studying & lab home-work. With having three kids that are involved in lots activities , a husband , and a house to run there is no way I could do well in the class if I were taking anything else with it. Taking A&P with micro can be done, just not by me :clown:

Good luck to you.

It's doable, but you will spend a lot of time studying and memorizing. Might be good practice for nursing school, though. :rotfl: But if I were you I'd probably take one science and one non-science if I could, because GPA for the prereqs is so important.

I am taking Micro and A&P 1 this semester, start Tuesday. I do have some prior knowledge of A&P and have taken an intense Med Terms class where it was based primarily on A&P. I am not worried about it at all. I dont have a choice but to take them together because of the sequence of pre-req's and the times that they accept entrance applications to the Nursing program. If I didnt take them togther, I wouldn't even be able to apply to the program untill May 2006 for the Fall 2006 semester. By taking these two classes together, I will be able to apply this Sept 05 for the Spring 06 semester. I dont want to spend 4 years in cc trying to get my ASN and I cant afford to get my BSN. :angryfire Really burns me up that some of these CC's would make it so you have to take two sciences together or wait so long! Geeesh :angryfire

If that's all you're taking, it shouldn't be a problem if you have good time management.

I am in a similar situation. To be eligible by next Dec. I must take them together. I am a LPN so some of the material will be a review, however, 6yrs ago in my PN program Micro was not a requirement.

Good Luck in your classes. I am hoping that I can stop working by next semester, if not I will have to wait and take the long road to my RN. I can't see taking two sciences + labs + a family and working too. Are you working at all ??

Thanks for the luck, I believe I am going to need it LOL. Good luck to you as well! No I am not working thank goodness! However, I do have three young daughters aged 9, 6, and 1. The baby is oh how shall I say "IN TO EVERYTHING" and "MY PERSONAL HEMMORRHOID." LMAO. It is almost impossible for me to study with her awake, and the bad part is I wont be able to stay up late this semester to study like I did last semester because my A&P class starts at 9am. So I told my hubby that on my off days, I am going to the library from the time he gets home till I have everything finished LOL. He is on his own. I know this is going to be one hectic road to ride, but I have to do it. I am trying to maintain a 4.0 right now and this semester is going to either make me or break me. I do suppose that this would be good preparation for nursing classes LMAO. We shall see!

Wow....how I remember those days. The first time around mine where toddlers, but I didn't work. My classes where M-F 8-4...One whole year. Now they are 8 yrs old (girl) and 9 yrs. old (boy) Your plan sounds like a great one.

If all works out.... (with me not working) I will do the same thing. Currently my school made me take a Bio refresher just basic, it was required since I have out of school more than 5 yrs. I am also made to retake A&P because of the time restraints as well. The bridge to RN is alot harder than I expected. When you are already in field I think they expect more out of you than the regular Nursing student. I try not tell anyone I am a nurse..LOL

I work 9-5 in transplant services for a tissue bank. I am a QA reviewer. I work with a great team and am the only licensed nurse. I learn something new everyday because we review medical record from all over the country. I work the floor as a nurse once a month with a local nursing service, to keep up my skills. I really hate to leave that job but I don't see any other way of getting through these classes, plus the reality is I would have to quit any way because once I begin my nursing core classes, I will need my days for lectures and clinical rotations. I know it will be worth the sacrifice in the long run. My husband and I have already talked about it so we knew the day would come. He is truly supportive, I really like that job but I have to stay focused on my true calling. If I I don't push myself toward my goal, I know in years to come I will regret passing up the opprotunity.

How long are your semesters ours are 16 weeks, Summer's are 10 weeks. Are you planning to take courses in summer too. If I don't do summer. I won't be finished in time. What are your professional goals??

I am really against the clock. I am trying to mentally prepare myself.....I hate this pressure !!! :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: Thanks for the feedback....

I am taking A&P 2 with micro this semester along with 7 other credits. Luckily I can spend many hours at work studying.

Last semester I took A&P 1 with Chemistry and hoenstly it was fine.

I am taking A & P I, Micro, second pysch class and Medical Math. The medical math will be an online course, so that will be somewhat easier for me. I have to be at school most of the day and evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the A & P and Micro classes. Hard work pays off in big ways. I am looking forward to mucho studying this semester. Good luck everyone, wishing everyone straight A's :balloons:
