Math is my biggest weakness too. I am almost 30 and taking pre-reqs for the nursing program, I'm applying next semester. I had to go through remedial math, it's not the biggest deal really, and will likely help you out when you get ready to take higher math, because it's refreshing the foundation you'll need for college math. If you're weak in math, it'll just take a lot of effort on your part. I've had to spend insane amounts of time at the tutoring center, lots of time doing practice problems, and staying after class for clarification of problems from the teacher. But I'm passing math thanks to all my effort.

How long it'll take you to finish pre-reqs depends on how many pre-reqs the program you plan to apply to requires. My program requires 16 credit to apply, and 34 total, but the other half can be done while in the program. You get extra points for each extra pre-req you complete past the required 16 before applying. So I'm finishing up the last of my required 16 this semester, and working torwards the other 16 next semester, which is also when I am applying for the program.

Sit down with an advisor at your school, they will show you what pre-reqs are required for your program of choice, and can help you determine a time-line of how long it'll take you to finish. Word of advice though: go into it with a more positive attitude. Don't go into it with the attitude of "IF I pass each class". The classes can be passed if you put in all the effort required. If classes are difficult, make sure you utilize any and all resources available to you. Use the professor's office hours, use the tutoring center, use study guides, youtube, whatever it takes. Just do not go into it with a defeated attitude before you even begin. Good luck!

I feel your pain! I totally had a horrible high school math experience and so none of it stuck with me. I'm 23 and went back to school last year. I had to start in a 2 non-credit maths and it really kind of stunk. At my school you can't take A&P, Micro, or Chem until you have taken at least college algebra. If I could do it over, I'd take my remedial maths with my english, psych's and lower level electives. That way you can take your higher level science classes later on once you're back in the swing of school.

Also, I did really well in my math classes. In high school I was a D student and in college I've managed to get B's in math but practicing and getting a lot of help at the math lab. Use your schools resources for math help!

So how bad are you at math? Can you do fractions, ratios, decimals etc? If not, take a remedial math class or buy a GED math book. That's what I did...I haven't used math in years (other than basic add and subtract) Every night study a chapter..I like the book because it helped me with the entrance exam and gives great examples.
