Know anything about Patient Care Techs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey there everyone... I'm new to this website and the whole nursing career in general! I am a second semester freshman nursing major in NJ. I'm working hard to get chosen for a position of Patient Care Tech at a nearby hospital. If I'm hired, they will train me in everything, so I don't have to worry about lack of clinical experience...

Here's the thing though: I've only been through one interview in my 18 years. It was simple and definitely not as serious as this one will be. I should be called in after Spring Break.

The amount of determination I have to get this job is enormous, because I've heard that it helps tremendously with later nursing courses and clinicals. I really want/need this job!

My love for nursing and medicine is completely genuine, so answering questions about that part isn't difficult... it's keeping my cool and calm that I'm worried about :o . What kinds of things do they ask you during interviews like these? This job is so important to me... I just don't want to mess up...

Can anyone give me tips on how to do well at this interview? Any advice would be so greatly appreciated...

Hi Cz,

Sounds like you are very determined in pursuing your nursing career and education! Good for you!

I am a pre-nursing student, I work for a Home Health Agency that is part of a hospital system, some things that are commonly asked:

What are your strengths/weaknesses? Try not to focus too much on weakness and try to turn the weakness into something positive.

What do you do in your free time? Hobbies?

Why have you chosen the healthcare profession? Sounds like that will be an easy one to answer for you..

What is your school schedule like? This is a reference for them so they can figure out if you will fit with the hospital's shifts.

What are your plans for the future?

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Try to have an idea of what you would like to answer but don't memorize answers to questions because if you say it wrong you will come off as nervous. Have a general idea of an answer that you can intergrate into the conversation.

Try to relax, be yourself, be confident and instead of thinking of the whole process as an interview, think of it as a conversation, like meeting someone for the first time, it makes things a little less intimidating.

Good Luck with your interview and school!! :)
