ITT Tech nursing?

From what I understand these schools are not accredited schools and the prices of going to these schools are double or triple the price of comm. college. I would definitely research and explore what you are getting into, before you decide to commit. Good luck to you, please let us know what you find out.

Hi!

I have never been to ITT Tech but I have heard that their nursing school is not on the list of approved schools that will allow you to take the state boards after graduation. At least that is the case in California. I would check first to make sure that you will be allowed to take the NCLEX after graduation before you pay money to go there. Good luck with your schooling!:)

None of it will transfer to a college program, in the event that it doesn't work out or you run out of funds and have to transfer to someplace lower cost. You'd have to start all over at a college or university degree program.

Really??! Why the heck would they even make a program if you can't even work with it! It sounds like such a scam!!

Out of all my research, I have yet to see/hear someone work as a RN from ITT.

The one I was going to go to for Nursing didn't have a graudating class yet. I think this is the last year/semester for the 1st class to graduate. :uhoh21:

ITT only recently started nursing programs. They -are- privately accredited FWIW.

I started nursing school at ITT in December 2011. I like their program and it's convenient for me. I don't care about the cost; there's scholarships and Pell grants and tuition reimbursement programs and loans and all sorts of help out there. It will get paid one way or another. Once I get my ADN from ITT, I plan to go on and get my BSN from them. The BSN is done entirely online, so I plan to do it while I work.

FWIW my older sister is an RN (with a master's degree) and she RUNS a very large nursing home/LTC facility, has for well over a decade. She said that when she is interviewing an RN for a job, that she doesn't care where they went to school or how much it cost them; all she cares about is that they passed the NCLEX, they have a currently valid FL nursing license, and that they know what the heck they're doing.

I have a interview next weekhere in Albuquerque at ITT to research their RN program. As a single mom without family to watch my son and not on goverment support. I need a program where I can still work full time and go to school. ITT does have its drawbacks but it fits (so far) . I was wondering if it qualifies for any of the goverment rural health loans? I am making a list of questions to ask them. Any ideals would be great! I have been a MA since 89 and need to move on LOL finally!

No idea about the rural health loans, sorry. Really good question though. I know if you volunteer for the Peace Corps or Americorps (with most of their programs) you can get nearly 5K (for each year that you volunteer) in student loan assistance or forgiveness which can certainly go towards repaying federal student loans. Americorps only pays the equivalent of min. wage while you are working though; it is a volunteer program, after all. I am considering doing it for that 5K for a couple of years because I do have other income (through my husband's job.) With Americorps you stay in the USA; it's with the Peace Corps that you go to other countries.

It's certainly hard raising kids even with help. I've been there myself. One of my fellow students is a single mom with two -very- young children. She works full time 11 PM -7 AM as a CNA and then she comes to class after work in the mornings (our classes are 2 days/week, during the daytime, aside from the one online class we have this quarter. The online ones you do whenever works for you.) At least she has her mom to keep the kids on those two days. Another one is a guy who lives with his girlfriend.. they have two little kids as well, but he was able to get his job to give him Thurs/Fri days off so he can go to school, and the GF is home with the kids those two days. I think she works part time herself. It's hard, but there's got to be a way to make it happen. Good luck, whatever you end up doing.

I am currently enrolled at ITT in Florida ASDN Program I am in my 5th semester. I am currently an LPN and I enjoy this program for the simple fact it is not like typical nursing programs. I must admit that once I obtained my LPN I refused to step foot into another nursing program. It took me three years to say that I am ready to try to obtain my RN. Although ITT is a brand new nursing program we have well educated and experienced instructors that currently continues to practice. The atmosphere is positive and very motivating and I enjoy that. It is nice to have people and classmates who care and who are there with you every step of the way. I am blessed to say that my current employer is paying for my education, however I do have to work for them for two years there after at any of there companies in the state of florida. I believe this is a great opportunity for me because my previous school credits did not transfer, I believe this is the new trend in education to get more money. Although I know ITT credits do not transfer I plan to retake credits at a local community college with another scholorship. I have this until the age of 28 I am now 26. After graduation, I will be debt free, employed with my same employer, and already have experience as a LPN. I believe I have made a wonderful decision, I applied to ITT June of 2011 and my other classmate applied to local community college and still has not been excepted and they have added even more core classes. I figure by the time she finishes the added core classes or even get excepted I will be almost finished. I unfortunately could not wait that long, I have and family to continue to provide for. I also recieve pell for Itt and a scholorship given through there program that helps me with micellenous expenses. I plan on saving the money I recieve for a down payment on my new home which will be my graduation present for all of my hard work. I recommend that everyone do what is best for you. Itt tech is a great program I enjoy the flexability, the hardwork and dedication from the staff, the enviornment and the learning experience. All in all at the end of the day an RN is an RN is an RN. We may not all have the same story as to how we came to obtain our RN but we have those same two letters behind our names. Itt is what you make it regardless of the program there. I also noticed in previous post lots of grads from ITT would not be hired thats not true. Most of my class have been offered postions on clinical sites after graduation and for those who are LPNs were hired now. The people offered postions while they are LPN's signed contracts to have there education payed for. Also, I have even been offered a position at a clinical site, again it is what you make it and make your next move your best move for you.
