I want to know the truth.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Yo,

If anyone has transferred into the pre-nursing program at UCCS from an out of state school, do you know if separated semesters of anatomy and physiology transfer? I have 10 credit hours from those courses alone, and if they don't transfer I don't know if it's worth it. Also, what percentage of pre-nursing students DON'T make it into the nursing program?

Thanks

Anatomy and physiology usually transfer. Most schools recognize that some schools do it one way and some do it the other.

You should be able to find out the acceptance rate from the school's website, or you can contact their nursing department.

Good day, knightyknight:

If the AP classes are from the same school within the past 5 years (some will accept a longer time frame, but I've seen more 5 year limits for some of the sciences) where you got a C or better in each, then they should transfer.

Thank you.

PP advice and information is accurate. Most science/math courses 'expire' after 5 years.

I don't know of any way to determine the proportion of 'pre nursing' students who don't actually make it into a program because there are too many variables. However, you can ask the schools (that you are interested in) about their selection ratios... how many are accepted versus how many have applied. You can also request information about the range of GPAs among the students that are accepted; this is very valuable information because the 'minimal GPA' that is listed in the catalog usually has very little to do with reality.

Best of luck on your educational goals!

You should be able check the board of nursing stats in your state to find out the number of qualified applicants, the number admitted, the reasons for denial (lack of resources, etc) and NCLEX pass rates. When I searched I used the term "Louisiana board of nursing nclex pass rates" it pulled up a very lengthy PDF document that had all of that info in it separated by school.

Sometimes A&P does not transfer. There is a gal in my A&P 2 that had tl retake both after transferring bc our community college uses cadavers and her previous school did not.
