Did you take out an FMLA when the accident happened? If so, then you have up to 12 weeks leave time where they cannot touch you.

Unfortunately, the OP is in Canada. I don't know what they'd have there for laws.

That's a terrible situation. I'd be glad to look elsewhere for employment if I wasn't valued and recieved that kind of threat . It's their loss. I think you'll have no trouble finding a better job. Wishing you a speady recovery and great new job

In Canada there are strict labour laws. They can't legally fire me because of a car accident. I didn't aim to get in an accident and be unable to work so it is not my fault, and they are basically trying to say that I did it on purpose. My doctor told me if they cannot provide suitable working conditions according to his not the I was not supposed to work at all. He told another coworker who had hurt her back at work that a Dr. will write a note for anything these days. Also I really couldn't care less that I had to call in sick for the holidays. He doesn't have enough casuals to cover the shifts that nobosy wants to take on a good day. we have a staff of about 70 full-time and about 10 casuals. I am a casual.

That's ridiculous for him to do that. I don't know how it is for the rest of you guys but it's "at will" employment here in California but that doesn't mean that they can fire you for anything. The only time an employer can do that and get away with it is if you let them. If you get fired for something like not being able to work due to an injury that you have a doctor's note for then every lawyer will be frothing at the mouth to take that case because it'll be an open and shut win. Everyone has a right to fair employment...if you have to sue your employer to maintain that right then so be it, that's their problem not yours at that point. Best of luck to you Danianne.

Sorry, to hear this. I was forced to resign a position just recently. They did not seem to have grounds to force me to do it, BUT if your employer wants to get rid of you they will. They will create an agenda that does not include you.

Anyway, I worked there for eight weeks, loved it. I received five weeks severance which I thought was pretty generous. Thought the five weeks was a pretty good indicator of their grounds.

If you can please look on this experience as just part of life and move on. Though, I know from experience its hard not to hate your boss and/or the people responsible for the event.

Please ask about unemployment benefits. I happen to be Canadian and Canada seems pretty liberal.

Unfortuanetly I live in a town where there is ONE hospital that is run by a health authority that does not hire grads from the school I went to, and the NH where I work is the only NH not under the Health Authority, So that means that I will have a very very hard time finding work other than MC Donalds so looking at this as apart of life will cause me and my children to starve. I was not offered severance of any kind so this boss in my opinion is the biggest A$$ I have ever met. Of course Canada is liberal that is the current government in power right now.

So I got a message from my boss today... "I suggest you show up tomorrow and work 1545-2145 or consider this your last shift at *********" Yes I did call in broken today. I have a really good reason though I was is a car accident at the beginning of the month and I am still experiencing the effects of some pretty bad whiplash. I am a CNA and there is NO LIGHT DUTY. so My dr told me that if my boss couldn't offer me light duty that I was not supposed to go back. I went back for part of one shift and although I didn't do my share of toileting and transferring I set the tables and handed out snacks so I could take that load off my coworkers but that was even too much for me. So i called in broken and now I am going to get fired. I depend on my income to pay for school. I just don't know what to do.

I don't know how your story will end with this. Your boss sounds heartless and unfeeling, but as I have ever witnessed throughout my life, "what goes around will eventually come around back to you", and at some point in his life I'm sure he will experience heartlessness toward himself. How sad.

This may be of little compensation to you now, but at 58 I've been around the block more than a few times and have changed careers a few times as well. Just when I've thought things couldn't get worse, God has always opened another door and it has turned out better than I could have ever imagined. If this doesn't work out and you find yourself in your worse situation, please don't give up. You will find yourself moving on with your life and probably will find something even better around the corner.

    My prayers are with you.

Yes he is heartless. He only really thinks about the bottom line.
