How to get the best experience!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So today after I came home from signing paperwork for volunteering orientation at a local hospital....got an email that contained my acceptance information for ADN Program....(yayyy)...my chosen section for volunteering was ED....how do I gain the most information, skills, etc...before nursing starts in the fall? I am scheduled 2 nights a week & can pick up any days if desired...but how do I go about this "pre-journey"? Any advice...

with volunteering you will be limited as to what they allow you to do. You can do a lot more if you became a pt care tech, or whatever your hosp calls the helper. The best thing you can do is listen listen listen. Go home and look up diseases, treatments, etc. Watch how the nurses prioritize and organize their care. If you are allowed, go around with the docs when they assess or go back to tell pts what they think is wrong with them.

good luck!

I agree with the first poster. Try a little NA work. I've been a cna for almost 7 years now and I've learned so much. And CONGRATULATIONS on getting in!! :yeah:

Specializes in none.

While you are at the ED dept, volunteer for anything. If they want some one to stay with a patients family, wrap a body, restrain a patient, clean up stuff, or hold a buket while a patient throws up. Do it.
