How to pay for school?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have been out of high school for almost 6 years I have been a SAHM and I would love to go to school to be an RN, I need to do the pre-req's first, I went to our nursing school and applied for the pre stuff, but it is $158/ hour for non nursing classes, they told me to fill out FAFSA, so I did but the counselor said it wouldn't be worth my time b/c I would only be taking 6 hours a semester so I found our community college, the credits transfer to the school I will go to for my nursing but they won't help me find financial aid, how do I go about applying for student loans and such. I just don't know where to begin, is there any grants available I am a military wife, so we definately aren't rich.

thanks!

there are scholarships availabel for military wives. Go the the Education center on your post they have counselors that will help you get started.

You should also be able to apply for student loans through the finacial aid office at your school. BTW I am also a military wife :)

I am a Mom of 2 and when I decided to become a RN I got a job at a local LTC facility where they trained me to become a CNA and have tuition reimbursement as long as I agree to work there. I work crazy hours on weekend option Fridays from6:30p-7A and Sat. 6:30p-7A that way I have sunday to catch up on my sleep for the school week ahead.

Good Luck

Thank you guys so much, I will definately go talk to education center for their guidence!

My tuition is over 400.00 a credit hour. I work part-time and take out student loans. Sallie Mae is who I borrow from. You start repayment 6 months after you graduate. They don't do credit checks, and are very flexible.

Good luck ;)

Specializes in LTC.

Fill out FAFSA anyways. If you can't get fin aide for taking under 6credit hours, take something simple like CPR or phy-ed and see if they'll give you aide then.
