HELP! Bombed the HESI Entrance Test

Oh yeah

I just took the HESI entrance test today and did not pass all the sections. I took about 3 weeks to prep for this. Fortunately, I only have to retake 1 section. For those that haven't taken it yet, I'll just share what I did for prep work in case it helps:
I got a 92 in Math. It was truly fractions, rations and very basic math. Only a couple of questions with conversions to metrics. I used the Kaplan guide and did all of the practice questions. Know your fractions & ratios.

Reading comprehension and grammar 94. Take your time with the reading seaction. In our school, the part you have to read stays on screen with each question so you have lots of opportunity to re-read the material.
Grammar: I found this ridiculously easy.

Chemistry - I've never had chemistry and studied using Chemistry for Dummies. Its a good book but a little to much detail for the test. I would recommend the Kaplan guide instead. I passed this with a 72 --I actually feel pretty good about it.

Biology: I took biology 2 years ago and used my notes & the Kaplan guide. I got a 72.

A&P: I've never had this and didn't study for it. I took it for fun to see how I'd do. Giggles - only a 48!

I have to retake biology because the school I want to go to requires a grade of at least 62 in chemistry and an average of a 75 between Chem and 1 other science. I have a better chance bringing up my biology score than my A&P.

The important thing to do is reduce the # of things you're weak on so... get comfortable with math, vocabulary and reading. Those should be BASIC to anyone wanting to be a nurse.

Then focus on the items you struggle with. Get help from anyone willing to lend it, including the school you're testing at. Some may have study groups or test quizzes.

I just registered to this site in hopes of some help. I amtaking the Hesi exam this thurs. 4/26 For BCC in NJ for dental Hygiene..Has anyone taking the exam for BCC if so..let me know.
For any other person that can answer... FOr the math part..are yo allowed calculators?? Do you relaly have to memorize the metric system and such??? as well as for the chemestry part?? AM I going to be asked about moles and balancing equations etc??

I don't know if the dental hygiene requirements are the same so I don't want to mislead you. The test I took, we were not allowed calculators as there is an online one that is really simple to use. Our proctor also had hand held ones we could borrow. I didn't use it, I just used the computer one. For me, scrap paper makes me happy and we were given some to use.
In terms of metrics, there were a couple of kilometer & milligram questions. There were some household conversions so know your cups, ounces, gallons etc..
There was one or 2 mole questions and a few "solve for x". A lot of fractions, ratios & simple math. I am not a genius and I got a 92. My girlfriend who didn't study math at all got a 90. She's been helping her fourth grader with his homework and that is really all she needed.

Thank you!! I am actually going to be taking the vocab. grammer, reading, math BIO, and laslty CHEM that is driving me insane. Of course the personality test and the other one. IT is a relive that I can use a calculator though....Thank u again!

I took my test yesterday but made 80-89%. I think the test is basically comprehensive. Just take your time to pick the best answer. The comprehension is very trickish, but take your time to pick the best answer after 2 distractor..

I too bombed my HESI A2, I did average on the math grammar etc but the sciences killed it for me. I bought the study guide and felt that it was only helpful in the math and grammar sections.

The review of the sciences was pointless I studied the guide front to back ant it was such a waste of time and money. I do not have a backround in A&P but I do in Bio and I still scored poorly.

I am a BCC student and took the HESI a2 but for the nursing program... the sciences were very very diffcult. YES you do need to memorize the metric system, there are alot of questions on them. The study guide they suggest is only helpful in math and grammar, not the sciences at all. If you want to study for them use old notes from classes you have taken in the past. GOOD LUCK
