I'm a pre-nursing student and I was advised to check whether having a psychiatric history can prevent me from being able to take the NCLEX. I had an overdose and some hospitalizations in the past. Will I be able to become a nurse, or is there a period of time I have to wait since the incident? I'd like to know before I complete all the coursework! I'm in Illinois by the way. I want to be either a Nurse Anesthetist or a Psychiatric Nurse.

Your best resource would be the board of nursing in your state. You can find links to the state BON's by going to the gray toolbar at the top of each page and clicking on Links.
Since we can't possibly know all of the details of your situation, it wouldn't be very helpful to you if we speculated on your eligibility for licensure.
