FSCJ SPRING 2015

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello, everyone!

Since no one has started a Spring 2015 for FSCJ Nursing, I thought I would start it. I plan on applying the beginning of September I will take the exam in august. I'm very nervous of course. I have a preq gpa of 2.87 but I have an overall gpa of 3.23. Has anyone heard that FSCJ has changed their entrance exam to the HESI A2? Anyone applying to FSCJ hoping to get accepted for the spring?

I know that I received an email from Cheryl about a month ago that for the spring term we can still be enrolled in micro to apply. Has anyone else heard anything different? I just want to double check since it seems like they want to change things last minute.

For spring 2015 you can be enrolled in microbiology and apply

One thing I am confused about between the past two nursing packets is the CPR certification.... Do we need to be ACLS certified or do we just need our CPR certification? I need to renew my CPR certification anyway but i just want to know before I go and recertify when I could just go ahead and pay the money for the ACLS.

You can only be certified for ACLS ONCE you are already a nurse. you just need you BLS certification. ACLS certification allows you to push drugs if needed but you have to be licensed for that.

Ok thanks for the clarification I was curious since the first new packet said the ACLS and I thought that was weird. Thanks again

Has anyone else calculated their score? Heard anything new?

i feel like there is going to be very few people applying for spring! Can I get people's opinions on how you think we will do?

I hope so. I know this May sound crazy but I hope the exam change will have less people apply until we get accepted. I'm just so nervous. I'm taking the exam on the 20th of this month and I feel so unprepared. You or anyone have any tips. How long are the science portions? That's what I'm nervous about.

Hi everyone,

I missed my seat by 0.11 points. They took away 12 points from my score as they did not accept on of my classes. I went to the information session on August 4 and this is what I found out

***NEW INFORMATION***

Like you know Sociology has been taken out as a pre-requisite and Chemistry has been included instead.

*There is change in the way you calculate your points for the classes you have taken. The courses such as: Anatomy I, Anatomy II, Microbiology and MAC 1105 have a weight value of x1.5. This means:

For example:

Anatomy I (4 credits) - you earn an A which is 16 points. Multiply 16 by 1.5. -------> (16 x 1.5) = 24 points

Anatomy II (4 credits) - you earn a B which is 12 points. Multiply 12 by 1.5 --------> (12 x 1.5) = 18 points

Microbiology (4 credits) - you earn an A which is 16 points. Multiply 16 by 1.5 --------> (16 x 1.5) = 24 points

MAC 1105 or higher (3 credits) - you earn a C which is 8 points. Multiply 8 x 1.5 --------> (8 x 1.5) = 12 points

***On the other hand the other pre-requisite courses are weighted as x0.5. Meaning:

For example:

Humanities (3 credits) - you earn an A which is 12 points. Multiply 12 by 0.5. ----------> (12 x 0.5) = 6 points

DEP 2004 (3 credits) - you earn an A which is 12 points. Multiply 12 by 0.5. ----------> (12 x 0.5) = 6 points

ENC 1101 (3 credits) - you earn an A which is 12 points. Multiply 12 by 0.5. ----------> (12 x 0.5) = 6 points

PSY 1012 (3 credits) - you earn an A which is 12 points. Multiply 12 by 0.5. ----------> (12 x 0.5) = 6 points

Chemistry (3 credits) - you earn an A which is 12 points. Multiply 12 by 0.5. ----------> (12 x 0.5) = 6 points

******* SO, 24 + 18 + 24 + 12 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 108 POINTS

This is how you will calculate you points from now on. Hope this will help you guys. Do not worry by looking at the 0.5 mulitplier. because the 1.5 multiplier will balance everything out. however, there is a tendency that your points might decrease by 1 or 2 points or increase by 1 or 2 points.

Hi, JaTurner1994! I apologize if you've been inundated with requests for the nursing info packet, but after reading several of your posts it would appear you really are well-informed and, therefore, the person I would choose, that I AM choosing, to ask the same favor. If you don't mind, I'd truly appreciate it if you could forward the most recent and accurate packet from the Nursing office to [email protected]. I'm just starting this journey, and it sounds like this is exactly what I need to keep in the right direction. I'm a Summer 2015 hopeful, taking Chem 1032 (the 4 credit hour one) and A&P II this Fall, Micro in the Spring.

Thank you so much!

Shannon

Hi everyone,

Do you mind my asking how you found out about the info session on the 4th? Do I need to be on an email mailing list, or is there a page on the FSCJ website with that type of information on it and I'm just totally not seeing it?! Thank you for the points update you shared for those of us who did miss the meeting, though.

Thank you,

Shannon

Has anyone already submitted their application for Spring 2015? On the application itself where it has a table titled "General Education Requirements" (Page 19 or 21) what did you put in the "plan of Action year/Term to complete column?? Also - it says degree audit - do we leave that blank?

Then in the next table "Associate Degree nursing Professional Program Courses" (page 22 or 19) do we need to Plan out how and when we intend to take the nursing courses when we get in?

I'm sorry just very confused about the application.

I was mailed a application from FSCJ with a green paper cover and then found this board talking about the new application. Someone sent me the "new" application" but it doesn't look any different (except formatting) from the one mailed to me. How do I know I have the right application???

I just finished the last of my prereqs. I have not taken the HESI yet. I will be taking it in mid-September. I have 78 points for my classes with micro. I will be studying my butt of until I take the HESI. I need a great score to make up for what I feel is a lack of points from my classes.
