Free Tuition at U of DC -ended

by mlr03

I just got this email from my pre-nursing advisor at my university. Since I was already accepted to a nursing school, thought I'd pass it along:

Nursing Program/free tuition
If you know of anyone between 18-28 years old, interested in the Nursing field, University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is offering FREE tuition, FREE books, a $250 monthly stipend, and guaranteed job placement as a nurse at Providence Hospital upon graduation (it's a 3 year program) with a starting salary of $40,000.

The program is recruiting new students now!! Please contact

Hmm, I wonder. I'm sorry, the pre-nursing adviser at the University of Washington sent this out to all 400 or so people on the mailing list, so I figured it would be legit! So I have no idea what that's all about, sorry about that!

You should report your advisor because she is an idiot and I CANNOT believe that she would even pass on that kind of information. After a simple search on the internet it seems as though that expired in 2004, if it ever truly existed...

And not to be rude, but you really should pass on this type of 'urban legend' information either.

Wow. I just have to say, I find that incredibly rude of you. I received the information from an adviser at a top rate university, who I have trusted for pre-nursing information for the past 2 years. Excuse me for wanting to pass along information that could potentially help someone very much.

It is not rude of me one bit to tell you to take 2 seconds out of your day to make sure you are passing along true and valid information. What I could have said is that it just makes you look dumb, and that would have been rude.

You are right, the University of Washington is one of the top rated schools of nursing and considered an ivy league public college, which is why I told you that you should report your advisor. She should not be forwarding along "junk mail" to her students without checking into things first. It is just plain ignorant.

How would you feel if you were a student in the DC area (like myself) and read information about such a wonderful opportunity, that was total garbage? You would probably be irritated. Which is exactly why your advisor, and now you, should not be passing along that kind of stuff.

You can think I am rude all you want, and honestly I don't care. But the truth is, you shouldn't play "telephone". I personally do not pass on information that I do not know to be true. It is considered gossip, and what you heard is a rumor, not a fact. People take information like that seriously, and you would too if you have heard it about, let's say UW...

I am fully aware that you had good intentions, but that does not excuse the obligation to review your facts first.

Thank you for at least trying to let everyone know. Ignore the rude people! lol

I wish there was something like that for people 40 or older. Us old people need education help too.

okay, I am rude, and you can all go ahead and pass along every piece of information you hear without checking if it is factual, because you have 'good intentions'. You are all saints.

OK..all of you need top chill a bit.......

Seems like an honest mistake was made. Nobody set out to mislead anyone. I can understand why some are upset, but the OP's intentions appear to be good.

Let's move on.

Will close this thread as the information is not current.
