Feeling a little down about taking a summer class

Students Pre-Nursing

I have a summer class this year for Microbiology and none of my closets friends does as they all plan on going on many vacations together while I will be left out of it. My best friend even made fun of me that I won't be able to enjoy my summer fully and I'm now having second thoughts on whether I should just go ahead with this 4 credit hour class or not.

Without this class I won't be able to apply to the nursing program this fall because they require that the majority of sciences need to be done at the time of application. But it is really taking me everything not to drop this class's on a moment to enjoy my summer. I legit am forcing myself to buy these expenses books early so I have no other choice but to not back out of this.

I know I sound like a spoiled brat and I don't mean to but I really wish I had some friends who were also taking summer classes so I wouldn't feel so left out.

So I guess I'm posting this to see if anyone else have gone through the same situation I'm feeling and can offer me words of encouragement to stick it out?

TL;DR: Need to take 4 credit summer course but I'm feeling left out since all my friends are planning on going on a vacation this summer. How can I stick this summer course out without dropping it?

If you want to go on vacations, go on vacations. If you want to go to school, go to school. If you consider this a "problem", you've had a very good life.

I do know the feeling to a point, as I took off about 15 years between high school and college ...it's not something I can imagine needing encouragement and support for, though.

Seriously?

Go on vacation if you want. Put your social life ahead of your schooling, but realize if you're serious about school they won't let you be so flippant about attending courses.

Nursing probably isn't for you if you can't stick with a simple 4 credit course for a few weeks. It's alot of sacrifice just to get in much less get through.

Sorry but I was mostly asking for the encouragement and support because I don't feel happy at all but I guess you're right.

It's just that I was hoping for a break from school until my nursing program dropped his bomshell on me and I had to change my route. Sorry if I sound like I value my social life over school (which I don't). School is my 1st priority and it will always be but I was just hoping for some time off after pulling all A's and busting my ass for the school year. But thank you for commenting, I appreciate it.

Take your class this summer. You will regret it when you have to wait another year to start nursing school. You will be able to take plenty of vacations In between semesters and when you graduate. And tell your friend making fun of you to eff off.

I'm taking two courses this summer in hopes that I'll have next summer off(my program goes year-round). I'm also expecting my first child this summer. We can do this!

I don't understand why this is such a big deal you are taking only one course this summer and you think your social life is in ruins? you know that nurses work all summer I hope, and that vacation time is limited, so not sure what kind of encouragement you were really looking for. your only encouragement needed should be knowing that you will qualify to apply to the nursing program, who cares if you have to take one course this summer to do it?

like my mom used to say, don't mind what your friends do, you do what you need to do. So what if your friends aren't taking summer classes? if they are really teasing you about it and you are really bothered by it this sounds much more like middle school than college.

once you graduate you will be studying for the nclex and then you will be searching for a job and then you will be waiting until you have enough vacation time saved up to do something with it. this is life.

Work hard now, play later.

Your friends are being ignorant.

Best friends, don't "make fun" of best friends.

This is not the only sacrifice you will make to become a nurse. If you are not prepared to work nights, holidays, and 13 hour shifts... give it up. Just don't take accelerated chemistry in the summer, I can tell you THAT stinks.

Words of encouragement to sticking it out? Ok - you'll be able to apply to nursing school in the fall. There. That should do it.

You don't sound like a spoiled brat. You want a break. But if you want to be a nurse - the decision should be easier than you think. As for your "friends?" True friends support each other.
