Feel like giving up on nursing...HELP!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone, i would really like some advice, i an a sophomore in college right now. I am 22 year old, and i feel like no matter how hard i try, i will never be an RN. I am failing one of my classes which is micro, i have a C right now in it and need an A, and everyone around me in my school who has started college after me is getting accepted into the program, and i still have 4 classes to be done, so i can get a higher GPA, mine is a 2.65 i know its horrible :( i want to be a nurse so badly, but i feel that i'll be in college forever trying to meet their standards. Btw one of my stuggles is math i'm horrible at it( which is holding me back from being fully done with my gen ed), I just want to know, if its possible anymore.

Sorry for my rant, which was everywhere. I am just very depressed over this.

Those are not "their" standards. They are THE standards. The reason it is hard is because you must weed out non hackers. It is much less about being "smart" and more about hard work. When I was getting my BSN I had to give up a lot of normal things..partying...watching tv...etc. If I did poorly I would study more. Meaning..you get a C studying 10 hours a week. Well.then you study 30 hours a week. It is up to you. In this vast world no one cares what you do. It is 100% UP TO YOU. If you decide it is not for you ..hey that is cool. If it was for everyone then I guess everyone would be doing it. If I sound harsh then so be it. It isn't. We all make choices in life. No one..NO ONE is going to walk up and hand you your BSN. So..decide.

girl I know exactly how you feel. I started college at 18 in 2006. knew I wanted to be a nurse from the gate. Life happens and it def happen to me. I failed out of school. got a job and started working. after a couple of months of working just to pay bills. I decided to go back to school. went to a community college to do my pre reqs. took me two years and finally they said I had too many credits I couldn't go anymore. I had to transfer. I got pregnant, had a kid... got pregnant AGAIN had another kid. then decided to got back to school AGAIN! Now I am 25 those failing grades I had way back when don't even count because they were long ago.

Advice I have as someone who has been there and quite frankly still there is DONT GIVE UP. It WILL happen. that is the mentality you have to have everyday your eyes open and your feet touch the floor. you are 22, just think about the people who are 35, 40, 50... just now going back to school trying to get it. Go ahead and tough it out now while you are young and you will think God you endured. remember the race is not for the swift its for those who endure to the end. GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS

I'm 21 and somewhat in the same boat as you.... a little bit about myself to make you feel better:)

First of all, don't quit, I almost did when I was in school. I started in 2010 at age 18 at Washington State University, I was immature and in a partying environment....NOT good for me. I ended my soph year in 2012 with a 2.9 GPA. That was a combination of 2.3's, 2.6's and 3.0's from the semesters. After that, I knew I needed to buckle down and retake some classes. I went to a community college for a year till this last June and and improved my GPA. I got a 3.7 from the whole year, but my cumulative only went up to a 3.1. I studied hard for the TEAS test, got an 82% (advanced), and applied to WSU's nursing school. To my surprise I got a letter to interview a couple of weeks ago. Two days ago I got my letter and found out I was not admitted. As well as my interview went, my GPA was not quite high enough. So I feel down too. I even questioned whether I even wanted to be a nurse. But I know I do. So in January I'm going back to school at a community college for a couple quarters, maybe through summer, to improve my GPA just a little more and then apply again in a year. It feels like I'll be in school FOREVER so I understand where you're coming from. All of my friends are either in nursing school or about to graduate and it makes me feel bad about myself.

My point is, don't quit. It is NOT too late, trust me. Maybe take only a couple classes at a time instead of a full schedule. What other stresses do you have? Work? You CAN do it if you want to be a nurse as badly as it sounds that you do. Have you gotten your CNA? And be patient! As hard as it is, you may need to take a couple more years of doing prerequisites and retaking classes (like myself). Although that is not ideal, some people need to do it that way. Patience is a virtue! And as bad as it sucks to hear, nursing school is much much harder....but when you get the hang of things, find out what study habbits work for you, nursing school will be just fine.

Tell me what you think!

Hi LisaMarie,

I'm 31 and have taken a lot of different college classes. Mainly because I really didn't know what I wanted to do. I failed out of Accounting and some other classes that have nothing to do with Nursing. My gpa is just below 2 right now. Sad :( anyway, if you go to a school like , which assuming I pass my teas test, I will be attending, they do not look at the gpa. Its a lot more expensive than community colleges but there is no lottery. If you pass your teas test you're in. I think tuition in IL is $42K for Associates in Nursing. I have a lot of transfer credits so mine is roughly $30K. Worth it in my eyes if you really want to be a nurse. Good luck!
