Fall 2013...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Is there anyone starting prerequisites this fall? I will be a 26 year old freshman and I am sort of nervous about starting college for the first time.:nailbiting: Is there anyone out there who feels the same way?

I started my pre-reqs in 2007 when I was 21. I just finished my pre-reqs August 2012 at 26. I got accepted to the RN program that starts this fall 2013 at age 27 :) Good luck, study hard to get great grades.

Don't worry about your age! There are people much older than you starting their career in nursing. I had people in their 40's in my prerequisite classes. It's never too late :) Good luck!

I'm taking prerequisites too, and I'm a few years older. I wouldn't say I'm nervous, but I'm hoping life doesn't get in the way this time.

I'll be 28 in July and I'm applying to my spring 2014 nursing program..there's a ton of people older than me in my prereqs.

Yes, don't let age make you nervous! I am 29 but there are several that are in their 40's and 50's. It is never too late :)

I'm 40 and will be starting pre-reqs this fall. I've been in school for the past year and a half bouncing back and forth between HIT (Health Inf. Technology) and Nursing. I finally realized that I've got one life and time is moving fast! So far, I'm scheduled to take A&PI, Mathematics for Health Care professionals and a few other classes but I'm debating on whether to try to add Chemistry in there as well. I need Chemistry in order to apply for the program. If I want to apply in Spring '14 then I need Chemistry for Fall '13 ... but I'm not sure if I can handle 2 sciences. I need to decide pretty quickly though if I want to go super fast or take it slow and steady.

Thank you guys so much for the warm words. I feel better already!

You have an advantage over me. I took classes throughout my 8 years in the military. I didn't have a goal other than to use my benefits to help my performance reports even though a degree would not have helped advance my military career, and that was reflected in my grades. Now I have enough credits to be a senior, and an overall gpa that is very tough to improve much. Knowing what you want at the beginning of your college career allows you to do things right.

Hi I was just wondering what school will you be attending in fall 13

It's true!! It's never too late. I am 36 years old. I started my pre-req's in fall 2010. I applied to the nursing program three times and finally got in! I start this fall and I will be 37!! You can do this! With age comes maturity. I did much better this second time around even with three kids and a hubby to care for! Don't worry about your age. I saw tons of "older" people mixed in with the young crowds in all my classes. Good luck!

True stories... just remember your four goals: get a 3.0 in ur overall gpa, as close to a 4.0 in ur prereqs (meaning its okay to get a B in English if you need to devote more time to getting an A in Micro), and build solid relationships with people that could write a great rec letters on your behalf. With that said, be sure you find a job or volunteer gig in a patient care related field... that's like bonus points if ur GPA is not very competitive when you start applyint to non-lottery based programs. Btw, I'm 36 and I learned the lessons above through trial and error. I have completed everything and done everything and even getting an EMT, but due to a low GPA (3.02) I have a smaller chance of getting in. I wish someone had told me all this when I went back to school... but, it is never too late and to me Nursing will be worth all my sacrifices.
