OK, I have to vent about the "kids" in our lab who are careless with their samples, break items, leave oil on the immersion lens and have a blasť attitude. A girl in our lab today (who has broken several things already) broke the #1 rule in our lab: do NOT carry test tubes by the cap! Not only did she lose control of the test tube, she spilled the sample of Salmonella all over my bench and my back (TSA broth).

Instead of being apologetic, she had the "it wasn't my fault" attitude Our prof was visibly fed up with her. He said he was lowering her letter grade because he's warned her enough about being careless. (She wore flip-flops to lab, broke 2 sample slides, dropped a beaker, broke the tongs, etc.)

Is it just me being "old" or do these kids just not get it? How do they expect to get into nursing school, graduate and hold down a job? AARRGGHH....frustrating!!!

    OK, vent over

No it's not just you being "old" it's people being careless and not understanding the severity of thier actions. I am probably close to the same age as the people that everyone conciders "kids" (I'm 21), but I personally feel like they are not quite as mature as they could be. I think that getting married at a young age and having kids made me grow up fast. It's something that I am very greatful for when I see how others close to my age act on a daily basis.

Hang in there.... chances are nursing school will make them grow up (similar to the military) or they won't make it through nursing school either because they dont pass or get kicked out.

Wow, I'm pretty sure my prof would've kicked her out by now. Once someone came with sandals and our prof told her to leave and return the next lab with the proper footwear. Our prof made it clear from the beginning that there was a wait-list for the class and if we were too careless another person would be there to take our spot. You aren't old. You're just smart, and that's becoming a rarity these days...

I totally relate. I am still completing pre-reqs and I can't believe the amount of disrespect in the classroom. Sometimes I feel in back in HS. People talking over the professor, taking to each other, on FB on their laptops, hurrying the professor at 9:55 pm because they have to be up early in the am (it's a 6-10 class so they KNOW what they're signing up for from the start). And most of these people are adults! Makes me crazy!

First test today. I have no idea how I did.
80 questions, plus 2 essay questions in 80 minutes.
I find out Tuesday how I did.
It was a lot of content. We shall see.

That's my other pet peeve....people talking while the professor is lecturing. It got so bad yesterday that my prof had to yell "SHUT UP!" and they still kept talking (after a brief 15 second stop ) So, when they started up again, he just quit talking and stared at us until they finally realized everyone in the room was listening to their conversation. It just makes me sick. I'm PAYING for this class! I WANT to be there! Don't waste my time (and everyone else's) by being rude & disrespectful. If I was teaching the class, I would have told them to leave. It's unreal how rude & self-entitled people have become...ugh!

This is now becoming a Microbiology/Therapy session...LOL Now, back to our regularly scheduled conversation...

Almost half way through Micro! We don't have a midterm in lecture or lab. We've had 1 lecture exam (94%), 1 lab exam (95.5%), 2 lab quizzes (110% and 97.5%), plus several "pre-lab checks". My instructor offers bonus points on all quizzes and exams as well as bonus assignments (worth 5 points each for lecture and 3 points each for lab). So far, my overall grade is 102.4%!

I want in on the therapy session! We have the same problem in our class: people talking over the instructor. We've also had issues with a lot of traffic in and out of the room during the class. Enough people have complained that he said something to the entire class about it last session. A friend of mine overheard some students talking after class: "Doesn't he understand we're all recently out of high school? Sometimes FB and our social lives are more important."

HEL-LO! Are you kidding me? First of all, I'm long out of high school, and so are many of the people sitting around me. Secondly, I'm PAYING for this class. I WANT to HEAR what the instructor has to say. You want to socialize? There's plenty of room in the building lobby.

I'm sorry to say I'm not surprised by that behavior though. I wish I were, but I'm not.

Awesome, RunnerRN2b! That's one awesome grade. I would love to have a grade like that, but I'll be happy enough to maintain my A.

New to this thread, but also taking Micro this semester(In Arizona) and at midterms as well. Though my proff hasn't posted any grades yet I know its kicking my butt. Its as though he is talking another language, ,and most of my classmates feel the same. Hopefully I am overthinking it, since I've gotten high grades in all my other science classes. We just took our first exam on thursday and hopefully will know Tuesday how i did. I was confident but nonetheless nervous.
