I didn't know where to place this but I am a pre-nursing student at Southwestern College in Chula Vista,Ca. San Diego County for those that are not familiar with the area. I had math class and I stayed about 15 minutes before I was to uncomfortable to stay. I am not sure if that is just plain cowardly but I have children and felt extremely uncomfotable.

A message from SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE

SWC ALERT - A student and her family had been traveling to the Midwest last week.

Upon their return, the sister exhibited flu like symptoms and has been hospitalized.

The student is NOT exhibiting ANY flu like symptoms.

The student contacted the instructor to inform the instruction why the student had not been in class.

For caution, the 470 building was cordoned off.

Our campus nurse has thoroughly examined the student and there IS NO EXPECTATION OF EBOLA.

An earlier communication saying that the County Department of Health was on their way was incorrect.

We are in contact with County Health now.

......... This is the email I just received.

Ok, but the email stated that they ruled out Ebola.

Unless you are exhibit signs, at this point there's no issue.

Seriously? What is the reasoning for this? Unless this student spent a lot of time in Ohio with the nurse who flew, this sounds like a major overreaction. Flu symptoms? What kind? Vomiting and diarrhea aren't seen with the flu (it is, after all, a respiratory illness). This is the overreacting panic that has been caused by the media looking to get viewers or readers. (Promise to eat my words if, by some remote chance, this is actually Ebola related, but I won't hold my breath)

The email came several hours after the scare of the school closing an area down and having quarantined a student. They also kept a class of students quarantined in a specific area while they investigated the primary student. They didn't release the statement or emails clearing the student until noon.

As a mom I left because of their reaction to the situation. Several local news stations came in and there were police officers. Luckily it was review in my class so it didn't really mess up my day but that this is happening is crazy! And I am curious if a nurse can clear someone who could be a carrier of Ebola? Or does it need to be a doctor?

:wideyed:I heard about this too today although I don't attend SW college anymore. wow!

So now you know that people are willing to play on hysteria and make stuff up.

Crisis adverted.

Yes but now I also know the school thought there was a serious situation. This all began at 8am

There are some pathetic individuals in this world to play on the hysteria surrounding Ebola. It has happened in Missouri as well.
