Does anyone know what BSN programs can accept students with a GPA below 3.0?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

My problem is I changed my major, my first semester I got a 1.3 GPA and ever since its been hard to raise it. I have to get straight A's not even B's will help in order for me to graduate with my AA in pre-nursing with a 2.90 GPA. I need to apply to a BSN program, I just feel like I don't have that many options because most BSN programs accept an OVERALL Cummulative GPA of 3.0. I'm assuming that's not your separate Science GPA, this is like everything. I feel so discouraged because everyone I know has a GPA of at least a 3.0. PLEASE if someone knows schools, at this point I don't care if they're out of Florida, please tell me so I can look them up. I'm trying to see if I can apply for Fall 2018 or Spring 2018. I will be officially done Summer 2018 with my A.A.

Valencia College has a traditional ASN program that accepts students who meet the requirements (min 3.0 gpa overall etc) but acceptance is by the date you applied.. From my understanding there is a waiting list, but students start a semester or two from the date they've applied. Seminole is pretty flexible, but you need at least a 3.0 as well. Both programs are in Central Florida.

Can you take an additional semester of easier gen ed classes to raise your overall GPA?

You see, I would but it's already been 5 years I've been at Miami Dade College. I've literally completed all the general ed classes, it's just my sciences left and Stats. I'm taking Stats, A&P 1, and Chem (including the labs for both), then for Summer 2018 I'll be done with just A&P 2 and Micro (both with labs). I just feel like if I stay there longer, it'll look bad anyways because I've been there for so long. I mean the only real reason though why is because I was never full-time because of money. I've only been taking the maximum 3 classes, until now for Spring and Summer I will be going ham. You get me?

Yeah. But I don't think taking longer to complete all the prerequisites and other classes will matter though. Especially if it is only for another semester or so to get to a 3.0. I am not sure there are any nursing programs that accept lower than that. Personally I would do some filler classes over the summer to bring up my GPA and then take A&PII and Micro next fall. Those classes are no joke and I wouldn't want to do them over summer. Good luck in whatever you decide!

There are some community colleges in Arizona where they accept 3.0 and above. You should try to retake some of the classes just so it could bump up your GPA? Good luck!!

I hate to say it but 3.0 GPA won't be competetive enough for you to apply to many nursing programs. Think about it, you'll be competing with people who apply with GPA range 3.5-4.0. If nursing is something you absolutely want to do, you need to retake your courses (especially, pre-reqs) in order to raise your GPA significantly.

Wish you luck!

What about Chamberlain? How about LPN school and then an LPN to BSN program. There are some out there. You could do LPN to ADM and try for an RN to BSN program.

By reading all the posts, I've actually started the application for Chamberlain, I have a feeling that's where I'll end up. Thank you!!!!

It depends on the program, the one I am in bases your GPA on a set of core pre-requisites. not you overall college GPA. I would check the specific requirements with each program you plan to apply to. I thought private, for-profit programs catered to to those with lower GPA's, but I have no experience with whether that is true or not.
