Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So I am already a CNA and have been for almost 1 year I love it and can't wait to be a nurse. I know nursing is my passion but I am so scared of the classes I'm worried I won't pass. I do know I need to study more and work hard but it's so much to look at from the whole perspective I have 4 sciences and math to take and the teas test before I can apply. I'm on the right path just scared of failure

I figure you're not scared of failure enough. If you're terrified of failure than it won't even be an option. It's not about studying more, it's about learning to study effectively and learning to utilize your resources. I have studied side by side with future medical, pharmacy, dental, and optometry students (all in their schools now) and most of them weren't any smarter than I was but they were more driven to succeed mostly because they were terrified of failure. I went to a prestigious university and saw first hand that students who were at first focused but started relaxing towards the semester rarely succeeded. It was those in constant fear and drive to succeed who met their goal. Anatomy physiology microbiology and chemistry are not difficult courses if you know how to study. Do you know how I know this? These are introduction courses. They are considered difficult because they all have a lot of information. If you're scared of failure, my best advice to you would be to be more afraid that you'll be focused to not let yourself slip to getting comfortable. Study and be realistic. If you can't handle more than one science course at a time, sap lit them up. If you're background in science is weak, utilize other free resources such as Edx.org. Make sure that your biggest foe isn't yourself.

Dont be discouraged. I am 27 and I have 5 kids (it took me 5 years to get my pre-reqs done) and I was just accepted to the ADN program this fall. If I can do it so can you. I have been a CNA for 10 years while going to school. Good luck :)

It's totally normal to feel that way. If you already know you may have some trouble spots (mine was math back in the day) start getting help now. Use this time to your advantage.

Failure is not an option. That's what you have to choose. I love the saying "inch by inch, life's a cinch. Yard by yard, life is hard"...don't overwhelm and freak yourself out, you can do it.

Congratulations on your acceptance MommaTy!!!!

This sounds a lot like me, 26 with 4 kids, have been working on pre-req's for about 7/ 8 years. Became a surgical technologist in the process but I have not given up. Looking to start ADN program in January.

Good luck everyone!!!!

This thread explains exactly how I feel right now! I'm starting from square one. I've not been in any type of classroom setting since I graduated from high school 13 years ago but that will soon change. I to am scared of failure so until now I just wouldn't try. I'm going to use that to help keep me motivated! I'm taking my placement test in a week and will start school in June! Everyone's words of encouragement here have been great even though they were meant for someone else:). Thanks!

Don't be discouraged, just take your time getting all your pre-req's done and before you know it you'll back with the swing of things!!!

Good luck on your placement test!!!

I feel the exact same way. I just finished my first year of college (3.68 GPA) & was so scared to start because I thought I would fail. I'm still not doing as good as I would like to but that motivates me even more. Failure shouldn't be an option to you, just do it! You'll do fine. The first comment on this post is really true, read it over & over if you need to; its very true.

Thanks everyone! Is anyone from Vegas going to CSN? I wanted opinions on a professor for Bio 189.. If you have any PM me. Thanks
