Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Thanks for all of your responses to all of my previous posts. As you probably assume, I'm evaluating all of my options including ADN, BSN, and Direct-Entry MSN. The direct entry programs look extremely appealing, but seeing that they are at the best of colleges, I don't know how easy they are to get in.

Does anyone know what the typical GPA, scores, acceptance rates of these programs are? Anyone have any experience applying?

I'm in MD, so I'd consider Hopkins, but Columbia, MGHI in Mass, Case Western, Vanderbilt, Pace, and Yale also look appealing.

Seeing as nursing traditionally isn't an "ivy league" profession, are the credentials required for these programs less than what a typical "ivy" student would need?

I'd love to hear experiences with any programs.........

Hi there,

Thanks, it went really nice. :)

The sentiment of the words the rev spoke got to me, (we agreed about no crying and well that agreement was broke as I was sniffling and tearing and so on).

Mr. & Mrs.....

p.s. aaah, the bliss, (and all that :chuckle )

Oh that's so great! Both my hubby and I were all sniffly at our wedding too. I think when the service is small and intimate you have fewer nerves and more genuine emotion (at least that's how it seemed with us)!

Congrats Mr and Mrs! Yay!!

Thank you very much NP to be,

We all seem to be at very good places in our lives right now!!

The options we are all balancing are full of positive consequences, (even those with unfortunate letters of rejection, those are just 'delays' for strategizing!)

Fingers crossed for us all!!

Congrats to those of you with the Right Kind of letters!

So, for the next year until I reapply to UCSF, I'm going to do a Certificate in Theological Studies, because I might wind up going to seminary in a few years!

I am feeling really down right now. I was accepted into a traditional BSN program at a really good nursing school Ursuline College. The accelerated program was full for this year so I applied for the traditional and got accepted. It only took 3 weeks to find out if I got in. My dilemma now is how am I going to pay for it. My undergrad loan status is maxed out. I had also applied to a diploma RN program, but recently found out that I was not accepted for the upcoming year, b/c of my prereq's gpa only 2.5. My undergrad gpa was like 3.6.

Now my back up plan is to apply to Case Western University direct Entry program. They are very expensive, but I would be classified as a grad student which means I would have the graduate loan money to pay for it. I have to get everything submitted before June 1. I am concerned about my gpa. The program requires an overall of 3.0, but I don't know if that is combined prereq's and undergrad or what, so I am waiting to hear back from the recruiter to find out. I was told earlier from the recruiter that their program hardly ever fills up. I am studying now to take the MAT. The average score needed is 400. I thought this exam would be a little easier than the GRE. I am hoping to take the exam in a month. Has anyone taken this exam is it very difficult?

To top it off I am expecting my 3rd child April 27, so I am hoping I can get the test completed and scores submitted before June 1. I don't know how long it takes to get the scores. I just discovered yesterday that I now have to crunch to get things turned in. I have to inform Ursuline by May 1 if I plan to attend in order to get my deposit back If i decide not to go.

I am hoping that I will be able to get everything turned in quickly so I will know my status.

BMW,

Congratulations on the sure thing!! Also, even though it is another Bachellors degree it IS eligible for special loans, its a HEALTH care service degree.

I think this is the SURE thing and that it would be a very, very good idea to look into loans or scholarships for it. Really, the hard thing is getting accepted, keep your letter of acceptance and make copies. That letter is really your golden ticket to a lot of scholarships and extra goodies.

Some hospitals will even pay for all the nurse courses and texts and so on. Hang on, this may be better than you thought.

Yes, the graduate loans are higher BUT as a BSN you are eligible for complete scholarships and even a STIPEND on top of that, (check out the NHSC).

You have a lot going on, I suggest going on ahead and trying to apply to the direct entry programs but also, (and more strongly) also pursue your sure thing now and look into scholarships and loans for health service degrees, (like I said, they are out there, regardless if they are first or second Bachellor's degrees.)

Good luck!!
