DID NOT GET IN! Completely devastated...

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the previous good wishes, but I FINALLY got my letter today and I did not get in. :crying2:

The 2-year ADN program I applied to here in CA had 472 applicants who qualified, and out of those, 64 were chosen by a random lottery, and then another 50 names were chosen randomly for the alternate list. I was not chosen for either one.

The thing is, I know this is meant for me. I have a strong calling to do this, and I have worked SO HARD. I have all of my pre-reqs done and have earned a 4.0 GPA. Straight A's. I guess it just proves to me that I need to go for my bachelor's degree, where they admit based on academic merrit, and not pure luck. Everyone told me that anyway, I shouldn't have put all my eggs in one basket, so to speak.

Anyway, thanks for listening and thanks for all the support. My wonderful hubby is taking me out for dinner and DRINKS to cheer me up. Thank God for family.

Have a margarita on me girl! I'm so sorry. To have to wait 5 freaking months for disappointment... ugh. But, you're a smart, tough cookie with a great support system to boot! It sounds like Plan B is already in motion and I have no doubt you'll be exactly where you want to be very soon! Keep going after your dream!

I'm sorry, Vicky. Keep trying. It took me three tries to get in via the lottery system. If there are any schools near you with waiting lists, hop on. It helps to know that there's a backup plan.

I'm sorry, Vicky. I'm in the same boat as you - waiting on the darn lottery and my 4.0 GPA means squat (and I'm sure there are those with healthcare experience who are deservedly angry that they also do not get some kind of ranking for that). I honestly do not understand the point of the lottery system.

At any rate, I'm still waiting on my letter from a CA ADN program but if I don't get picked in the lottery, my Plan B is also BSN instead.

I am so sorry to hear your news, Vicky. I know that it hurts, and is so hard, but you will get in somewhere, somehow, if it is meant to be. I don't understand why schools go by a lottery instead of academics, but I guess that I why I am not on a board somewhere!!! Anyway, just keep trying. Your excellant grades mean something, just go with the BSN that looks at them. Good luck and keep us posted~

Vicky, I am so sorry. That is so frustrating to have such a good GPA and work so hard only to be at the whim of a lottery system. Have you considered applying to CSUEB? Their BSN program is 3 years but it is really close to you. I know it is would be a bummer to have to wait until October to apply, but I hear it has a good reputation. I am going to be starting at the Concord campus in September. Keep applying and trying different programs. I just know you are going to get in and be a great nurse one day. Best of luck,

Chin up vicky, you will get in, this is just a small setback. Get mad about it, cry about it and be upset about it and then when you are done dust yourself off and try again. You'll get in, keep your eye on the prize. As one of my favorite patients told me the other day "never accept defeat"

I'm so sorry! I just got turned down myself for a scholarship that I really wanted. I also have had straight As in my prereqs but had some bad grades on my transcript from 15 years ago, and it cost me the scholarship! I let myself be sad, cry, and eat some ice cream, but I'm already planning to apply again next year. I know you'll work it out.

i'm so sorry. you are fortunate in the fact that you have a loving, devoted & thoughtful husband. it's great that you had a backup plan. maybe it's like you said, that's the route that you should take. consider this a speed bump of sorts and continue to go for your dream. here's a bouquet of flowers to cheer you up!:flowersfo ((((hugs))))

I hope you look back a few years from now and say how glad you were that you went to that BSN program, (or wherever else you decide) despite this minor set back. You will get through this and you will be a great nurse.

Heya vicky! So sorry to hear about that lottery admission process. Its sounds really unfair. Seems like you have great plan lined up! We'll be rooting for you! Good luck on the BSN girl!
