CPR certification

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Is there a "certain or particular" CPR course that u need for nursing school? I went inline to Red Cross to register & it asked for lay responders, professional responders, etc. my schools handbook just says "heart saver CPR certification". My class is tomorrow & I don't want to get certified then find out It wasn't the correct one.

Good day:

For mine, I searched around for who had authorized courses; and, I was able to take it at one sponsored by a local hospital for $55.

Thank you.

Try the local hospitals.

Red Cross is CPR for the professional rescuer and is intended for EMS/first responders and life guards. It includes CPR for adult/infant/child and AED.

AHA is BLS(basic life support) for healthcare providers and includes adult/infant/child CPR, AED and cardiac/stroke emergency awareness and basic care

Most nursing programs require AHA as that is the hospital standard.

Generally first aid is not included in a healthcare provider course v

Just FYI, the American Heart Association lay person course does include AED. We use that for school personnel and our local fire dept does it for the cost of the book/certificate. ( how nice is that!)

Specializes in Hospice.

Hmmm, I just looked online for AHA courses and the closest is over an hour away in Norfolk VA. I better contact my advisor to be sure that Red Cross is acceptable. There is no info in the college ADN brochure, or the student ADN handbook on whether it has to be AHA or Red Cross. Seems like they would specify that. I have the CPR for healthcare workers through the Red Cross, have had that one for a few years. They will probably tell us at orientation, but we don't even have a date for that yet.

Not all classes show up on the AHA site. It's a service not an all inclusive information it also depends on where the service is based. For example my local hospital system has classes within 10 minutes from my but their corporate office is 90 minutes away so in the online search it pulls the corporate office.

Try your local hospital website to see if they list CPR classes. Sometimes it's under community education or healthcare training classes. If you have more than one hospital or paramedic service, shop around. the local hospital charges $75 more than the hospital in the next county 20 minutes away. The paramedic service was double the cost of the hospital class. Both have monthly classes. Plus when I started school my school offered the class if there was enough interest for a reasonable cost for incoming students.

This is what my school & all my jobs even my military job asks for:

This is from my school website just so u guys can see a picture:

You don't have to go to a AHA facility. Just call any CPR place ask if they offer BLS for the health care provider through the American Heart Association. Like I said I go to this hole in the wall it's a massage school & they offer AHA. It doesn't matter the facility it matters if the instructors are trained through AHA.

I found out that my university offers a BLS course through the AHA so I just signed up today! It's $50 plus a book
