Cost of living $$????

I was just recently laid off from work in Dec.2008. This gave me a chance to go ahead and enroll into nursing school full time. The bad thing is that the financial aid office went by my 2007 tax forms showing an income that I no longer have. Does anyone know of cost of living grants or loans that I can apply for to get me through the year?

Sometimes you can apply for a private loan. Its worth a try, but in this economy, you would need excellent credit and some lenders have stopped providing them all together. Good luck with your search

You have probably already done this, but speak to the financial aid office. Schools around me let you fill out hardship forms that if you have a dramatic change in income, they will consider you for financial aid. Keep trying too, speaking to different people can improve your odds. Sometimes you encounter people who don't know what they are talking about, so second, third, even forth opinions help.

Try the William D. Ford Federal student loan. This is who I use and you receive a loan thats not based on income. You do have to pay it back it isent a form of finantial aid. GOOD LUCK!!

I second this advice. Same thing happened to me in 2007-08. I filled out an appeal (I think thats what its called), and told them what my projected income was going to be, and why I had no job anymore, etc. The financial aid office processed it, and within a month, I got my grant and loan money. I also agree with Adams Mommy... Keep talking to somebody UNTIL THEY UNDERSTAND YOU! On a completely different issue this year, with financial aid office, I forgot to fill out that I completed high school. It just like, yes or no tick-mark. Easy fix right? It took me FOUR months, up the chain of command to the DEAN to get something so stupid fixed! My financial aid wouldn't process until that was fixed, and those financial aid office ladies gave me the WRONG info every time I called. I was going

Thank you everyone. And you're right I have recieved the wrong info 3 times. It just seems like this financial aid person at my school doesn't want to put in the effort to help me. Thanx for the advice though, I will be speaking to someone else )
