I'm surviving O-Chem. Though what really helps is partial credit and a bonus question. I can get little things wrong but still get 103% on the last quiz.
Though as someone pointed out this morning, we really need to know what we're supposed to know for the quizes and exams. This is so we can find new places in our memory to cram all this in. I joked that I suppose I can forget all I learned in microbiology, but need to hold on to A&P for the pharmacology class I'm taking now.:chuckle I guess it's pathetic that we're finding this so funny and it's only the 4th week in.

Good luck to everyone on their exams and quizes. It's still early in the semester/quarter so I'm sure you can still find room in your brains to cram in the Chemistry.

well thanks kat & december for those websites... they have really helped me out. It just reading this book.. its so long and dense and doesnt explain things well.. just to see it short, quick and to the point on the website is very helpful.

Had the first exam last night. Think it went pretty crappy- but who knows.. we should get grades back by tomorrow. I still disagree with lady that chem is easy.. maybe for you- but it definetely is challenging for a lot of us. The person who had the CSI lab.. thats awesome, i wish our school did interesting things like that. Right now our lab is some boring crap on acids and bases, I think the most exciting one we do is something about Beano. lol I really hate the lab ( I could probably deal with the class itself, but lab is a whole different story) - our labs are completely separate from the class so none of the ideas match up. Then of course the labs make no sense and the TAs are not very helpful.

hmm.. Chem sucks.. maybe thats not the right attitude but what can I say, it does suck.

Well good luck to all that have exams coming up soon!

My teacher from last quarter taught us a trick for the Density mass volume equation to remember as DMV - Department of Motor vehicles you can also remember if you put the letters D M V in a triangle with D in the lower left corner, M in the upper angle and V in the lower right corner and remember D=M/V, M=(D)(V), and V=M/D this is hard to see with out being able to draw it out in the triangle.

    Hi all!
Chemistry not going so good here Could anyone recommend any good study sites for Chemistry? I have web access with my book, but I need all the help and practice I can get. I made some stupid mistakes on my last test. Do not really understand electron configurations, now on top of that
have hybridization, which apparently is not even in our book If anyone knows anything about either of these subjects, or any good Chemistry sites, I would be very grateful!!

I know this is really stupid but go to Chem4kids.com. It's a really basic site and it helped me out a lot. Just keep reading and rereading and eventually it will click.

    Good luck.

Hi Everyone, hope your semester is off to a great start. I'm fortunate enough to have two professors who seem approachable if I need help.

I have a question I forgot to ask before leaving class last night....does anyone know how to do subscripts using microsoft word? I'm trying to type my lab report and I can't remember how to do this.

    Thanks so much!!!

This is the BEST Chemistry site I have found on the internet. It's aimed toward high school chemistry, but it has been such an asset for me. http://dbhs.wvusd.k12.ca.us/webdocs/ChemTeamIndex.html
Thanks so much for this link! I forwarded to the students in my chem class. Very helpful!

Select the number you want to change, then go to Format, then select font. Under effects you'll see subscript.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks so much Malia! I tried your trick...I had to use superscript for scientific notation.

I UNDERSTAND IT!!!!!!! I was having trouble with Stoichiometry, I was actually contemplating dropping the class-that's how much I didn't understand it- but guess what? 20 minutes of help from my husband and I have it all down. I can't go wrong. I can't believe how easy it is.
