Being Patient

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm taking 2 classes per semester to get my pre-reqs and some other stuff out of the way before I get into a nursing program and I gotta tell ya.....my patience is running thin! I'm taking Chem and CIS this next semester and then Physiology and something else the next. I'll be 41 by the time I get into a program (if I get in) and I feel like I need to rush, rush, rush! I keep telling myself I'm doing the smart thing by getting all the non nursing related courses out of the way, but I'm still second guessing myself all the time. I just want to jump in and go, but I know it will be so much easier if I'm patient. Ugg.... I just need to vent.

It is better late than never! I am 30 and will start my pre-req's this fall semester just to get into an ADN program that has a 2 year wait list. Once on the wait list, I will continue to take the required non-nursing courses so that I can just focus on the nursing courses and clinicals. In reality, it will take me 4 years just to get a 2 year Associate degree in Nursing. So I definitely know how you feel. Just be patient. Rushing will only stress you out more. Good luck!

I completely understand...if I get through the program I want to get into I'll be 39 when I graduate and will still want to do an RN-MSN program after. It's daunting starting over (I was accepted into nursing school when I was 21 and sometimes kicking myself for choosing a different career path back then...)

But I remind myself that it will happen again and 50 is the new 40 :) Hang in there, no need to stress yourself out and rush through...you'll get there!

Just stay focused on your ultimate goal as a nurse and everything will fall in place. Good luck!!
