Are you taking the summer off?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi! I have been debating whether to take a break this summer or to keep on pushing through. I just finished busting my behind through AP 1 & 2 (and working fulltime) so a couple months off until fall would be nice, but at the same time I just want to keep going!

If I were to take classes this summer it would be Nutrition and Medical Terminology. 8 week courses.

Anyone taking the summer off, or is it smarter to get trucking along?

BTW...whether I take the summer off or not, it doesn't affect my application date for the program..:)

If it doesn't affect your admissions date, I think breaks are good for you.

I decided to take a class - A&P 1 - over the summer since I only took 2 classes in the spring and plan to only take 2 classes during Fall. I developed my educational plan assuming I'd take 2 classes (1 science and 1 non-science) each regular term and I allowed myself summers off.

By taking a summer class, I will probably be able to apply sooner.

To me, it was a trade off, I could take over full timee classes in Fall and Spring and take summer off OR I could do what I'm doing now, part time year round.

From what I hear from my classmates, most are taking the summer off or taking a non science.

I'd take a bread, but two classes out of the way will make your fall load even more manageable.

Im only taking A&P 2 this summer. I feel really good about it since its an all summer class and not condensed. Also I live in Michigan and the weather is going to be a relief from walking around campus in the freezing cold.

I was planning on taking the summer off but then found out that I need to retake an English class that I took nearly 9 years ago to get an A because the gpa requirements to get into the program keep going up. I have 3 kids at home and it's a lot. But I think with just the one it should be ok.

I'd say that if it doesn't matter for when you apply I would either just take one class or take a break. IT will make you that much more ready for when it does start back up in the fall.

JenniePage, AfterI replied to this thread, I realized that I, too was supposed to take another English class and decided to add it in this summer. I was so glad an online section was still available. I, too will have 3 kids @ home this summer - 5, 11 and 15. Are yours younger?

If you don't have to take anymore science classes I would take a break.

Nutrition is a really easy class though. If you don't want to deal with a full load of classes for the fall I would take both of those classes in the summer.

Yea, it's really annoying! I already had to retake pyc 101 last semester. When I started off in school pre-kids I had no idea what I wanted and didn't focus as much. So here I am re-doing it now. What can you do? Live and learn. :uhoh3:

Anyhow yes my kids are younger. The youngest is finishing up K this year and I have a 4yo and a 22 month old!

My goal is to be done with nursing school by the time the youngest is in 1st grade. I'm not rushing it.

My issue with english is that when I took it at my first school it didn't transfer (101) they counted 102 which is that class I got a c in, I had a B in 101. But I figure I need to brush up on my technical writing any how because it's not that great.

Thanks for the responses. I have heard different things about Nutrition. Some say easy...some say not so much.

I'd always assumed Nutrition would be easy, like sociology or human development- I took both many years ago, but I can't say "pre-kids" because I started young.

But, I too heard that Nutrition was hard-go figure?! Maybe it depends on the kind of student and learner you are.

Jennie-how do you study with kids underfoot? I'm looking for tips and posted the same question on the prenursing page as it's own post.

I would definitely take med term and nutrition this summer...those should be significantly easier compared to A&P. And summer classes *can* be more laid-back. I love short classes. I'm personally taking Organic Chem, Statistics, and Composition II this summer. O.Chem and Stats will be at the same time. I also work full time. I don't know what I'd do without my classes! I like to keep busy, and keep working towards my goals.

No. I have Nutrition right now, and Pol Sci summer II. I almost took a break, and was going to put Pol Sci in the fall with Micro, but I decided Micro would be best served alone. After A&P 1&2 back to back, Nutrition seems like a walk in the park so far.
