Ap is kicking my ***

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I just started my ap1 class last week. Even though I umderstand the material, its so draining to the point that I am really worried. It could be that I should not have started this in the summer, but I'm dreading taking any other science classes. Nursing has been in my heart for so long and I'm worried that because of this being so much that its not foe me honestly I have no clue what I would do if I can't manage nursing. My teacher is great but its just so much to learn in such a short time. I feel very drained and exhausted and its only been a week. Anyone else feel this way and make it through? Should I power through or seriously rethink this?

How many weeks is the class?

I honestly feel like if you KNOW you can do much better in a regular semester then drop the class & wait until then. It's not worth messing up your grades to finish a class any faster.. I had to learn the hard way. I haven't took A&P yet but I've heard about how challenging it is.

Its not impossible to do well in A&P in the summer, but if you don't have the drive to stay focused (even if it's draining you), you should wait (JMO). A&P is probably the class that nursing schools look at the most so you should strive for nothing less than an A.

Don't give up! If you understand the material why is it so hard? I had to work my tail off in A & P I last summer in the condensed five week session and I did NOTHING but work on online tutorials and homework and reading, and still only managed a C. But I did it, you can too. I got an A in A & P II in the regular semester. You are only a week in so you haven't fallen behind or anything yet. I would say stick it out. At first everyone said A & P was the hardest course you would take in Nursing then I heard it was Pharmacology. It will be tough, but I never would have forgiven myself if I had given up. I start the ADN program in August. Good luck!

I have been told by my advisors that they look at your sciences GPA as a whole. I got in the ADN with a C in A/P I and an A in A/P II.

Thank you so much. Its just hard cause its so much in such a short period of time. I'm going to finish out the semester the best I can and if I see I'm not doing as well as I want to by midterm ill drop it I know if I give up ill never forgive myself. I'm just worried that if I'm this overwhelmed now how will I handle my job??

That may be true but all schools might not be like that.

Yeah you are right, it surpises me how different the schools are as far as everything from GPA they will accept to how they operate the admissions process.

Yeah that pretty much sums up all of nursing school. So much material to learn ina short period of time. Just when you feel like you can't cram in one more thing they throw 10 new chapters at you.

I just finished A&P1 and waiting on my final grade, but I'm pretty sure I got an A. My advice is to take your book everywhere with you, waiting 5 min at the pharmacy? Crack open the book. As much as a pain it is, after reading the chapter I answered the section review questions and the end of chapter review. My book also had a lot of online content, and I tried to do as much of that as possible as well. I'm not a flashcard person (dreading how I'm going to study in nursing school) as I can go over it multiple times and not have it stick. I have to write everything out multiple times for it to stay for me. I planned in 10-14 hours a week outside of class to study, and on test weeks even more. Make tables for hormones or drugs and what they affect and how. Mnemonics are your friend too.

I LOVED A&P!! It was my A&P II prof that I looooathed. I think you'll find that bonding with your fellow classmates will make it more reasonable. For us we created a facebook study group, we found games to do online that helped us absorb material, we all used studyblue and uploaded flashcards and tested each other. Summer classes in general aren't easy for sciences. It's a LOT of information, but stay on it and I'm sure you'll do great!!

Read your book!!! Watch youtube videos if you do not understand. Look online for practice test, and even check and see if your textbook company offers online material. One more thing, quizlet.com was a great study tool as well. It has flashcards and everything! A&P was challenging because of all the material to learn in such a short time, but this is the time for you to learn it. It is this very class that's the foundation for intro nursing courses. you need to know that A&P:yes:
