Here is a HESI Study Guide that I found online. Hope this helps:

Is this for the LVN or RN assessment test?

Thanks so much for this!

Just wanted to add to this thread, as it was a big help in my prep...
I took the HESI this morning, and I'm glad to say I passed with a 91.5.

Everything that has been posted here is true. I borrowed the study guide from the town library, and studied for about two weeks.

The study guide was GREAT for a math review. The math was super easy b/c they allow the computer calculator. If you know how to "manipulate" fractions and decimals on the calc, then you'll be fine. There were a few conversions (mostly -meters, -liters, -gallons, etc.), so make sure you get those down. A few military time and Roman numeral questions as well.

Vocab was a little tougher; there was a lot of medical terminology. I Google'd medical terminology quizzes and played around with those. It was a big help.

The sciences were as expected:
Know the cell (organelles, etc.)
Osmosis, active/passive transport
Aerobic and anaerobic respiration
ATP
DNA and RNA
The heart (basics)
What the systems in the body do
Basics of bones and joints
Basics of muscles
Planes and Cavities
Endocrice system

I also found online quizzes for A&P and Bio that helped a lot. The guide for these parts was just that - a guide. If you study the guide, and do a little extra research, it should be fairly easy. However, don't expect to NOT study and have an easy time (I've finished both A&P I and II), unless you really know your stuff.

All in all, it wasn't as bad as I worked my self up for it to be

Exactly what the book has thats whats on the test. Reading Comprehension. Dont read to much into the question. Just answer what they are asking you. I made a 98 on that section. My lowest grade was on the grammer. 88. Its all basic. Just study whats in the guide. Anatomy & Physiology also. Read the guide! Now I did study the Thea guide just for practice, but that was way harder than the actual Hesi test. But I mostly just worked on the Reading Comprehension part. It helped quite a bit. I dont know if you are going to have a vocabulary section. We did not, but for some reason I have been told that was difficult. The vocabulary thats in the book was not in the test. Its all hear say. I dont know for sure. Good Luck!! Dont worry too much.
Hi there,

I have major test anxiety. I actually have never had it before but also never had a standardized test before. I am taking the HESI A2 next week and I am frantic. I got the study guide and the "secrets" to the study guide. I also got text books, library books, etc. I bought the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam guide and some cliff notes for biology. I am pretty nervous about this test. I have failed the study guide science parts (a&p, biology, chemistry). I have a BA and took biology 12 years ago and got an A. Just haven't used it recently for anything. I just took a survey course on a&p, so I know a bit. The questions seem a bit harder. They aren't really asking things straight forward, like i.e. "what is this?" so I am getting all flustered. I have been studying about 7 hours per day. I have a GPA to get in the college I want, I took a computerized writing test that turned out okay for them. THIS is the only thing that is left. This is it. I know it is very competitive. My adviser said "you'll do fine." but I am really worried about the scoring. It will be scored immediately. It is computerized. You can't go back to any question if you are stuck. There will be reading comprehension, vocab, grammar, math, biology, chemistry, and a&p. I just wonder if they give you a grade of just what you got individually or your percentile? Out of all the posts, yours sounded the most calm. My heart is racing. The questions in the study guide for science are pretty tough. Maybe they aren't tough and this is a review for most people. I have been out of high school for years and didn't take much science or math in college but graduated 12 years ago. Am I freaking out for no reason or am I in over my head?? Anything you can add will be so helpful.

Thank you,

Lisa

what's the vocab like. For my school we're not required to take the science portions but we need the reading, vocab, grammar and math.

Lisa, stay calm. For the biology part, they are looking for a "big picture" kind of knowledge. So don't memorize the entire Citric Acid cycle, but just know the overarching stuff: what major events happen where and when. For the DNA/RNA questions, it's the same thing. Know, for example, what happens in the mitochondria and what happens outside it.

For chemistry, the study guide was helpful in focusing my attention. Know very basic stuff: how to balance a simple equation, how to do a simple density problem, the properties of water (I had a bunch of questions on that for some reason), pH and possibly pOH... Really, really basic stuff.

Honestly, the thing that helped me the most was sparknotes.com. If you go to that website and check out their test prep sections on bio, chem, etc. they are great. They boil stuff down without losing *too much* of the detail. That site was very helpful.

When I took it last year, the vocabulary was almost exactly like the study guide, with just a few other words thrown in. I wouldn't stress about it. (Easy for me to say, I know!)
